One of the Giants biggest nightmares is now coming to life. The Giants have been up against the cap for years, and are struggling signing FA WR Victor Cruz to a long term deal. The Giants made it clear that they would approach Nicks' contract next year when they had more cap flexibility. Well, it seems the star (and injury-riddled) receiver is not willing to wait his turn, and wants to get paid as soon as possible.
Hakeem Nicks has been MIA so far during the Giants OTAs for the upcoming season. Coach Tom Coughlin was irate at the absence of one of Eli's top targets, as he stated "He should be here,." It now appears that Hakeem Nicks is not showing up to the workouts due to his contract situation.
The Giants have no cap space to provide both Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks with contract extensions before the season begins. Another piece of news that might tie in with the Nicks situation is that WR Ramses Barden is close to a deal to return to the GMen this year. Barden, like Nicks, is an outside WR.
The Giants have to be wondering how they can get this big situation resolved.
It is rumored that Nicks will want north of 10 million a year. The Giants also have the extensions of Jason Pierre-Paul and Prince Amukamara to worry about in the coming years.

If Nicks can play a full season in 13, I'd rather have him over Cruz. We've seen how Cruz looks without Nicks on the outside commanding that deep safety over the top and it isn't good.

Nicks had one great year where he was a TD machine. Last year he was not good.
He can't carry Alexanders jock. As long as Alexander is heathy, which he is, he's young big and fast with great hands and after the catch elusiveness.

I want Nicks over Cruz in any situation. Do not get me wrong, I love Cruz and he has been instrumental in our recent success, but Eli and the Giants have proved that they can plug someone in at the slot and produce. Nicks is a special player, and is top 5 when healthy (yes, I think he is top 5).
If Nicks wants 11mil a year, give it to him. 12? Sure. I want Nicks on the Giants. and we must do what it takes.

He'll play regardless. I think this is more of a ploy to miss mini-camp than anything else, as it was a non-issue till now.

I'm sure he is upset that Cruz has a legit shot to be the one to win the WR contract from the Giants (don't really see the Giants paying both Cruz and Nicks big money) but he can't really do anything once mandatory mini camp rolls around unless he wants to get fined up the ass.

The Giants will not be able to keep both of them. Victor Cruz is the better of the two though (ironic considering Nicks was a 1st Round Pick and Cruz was Undrafted). I think they will suffer more if Cruz is let go rather than Nicks.
