i like the couple of moves that were made on defense ,although webster coming back still irks me the wrong way. the giants will probably go for an offensive lineman or linebacker in the draft so that should fill up even more holes. if nicks can stay healthy i think its safe to say that we will at least be better then 9-7 again lol.

low is a list of players that "I" believe the Giants should go after:
GROUP 1: LINEBACKERS
[1] Justin Durant [2] Rey Maualuga [3] Karlos Dansby [4] James Anderson [5] Nick Barnett
- One of the weakest positions for the Giants this past year was the LB position. We have a lot of young guys there (Williams, Paysinger, Herzlich). Our other LBs include injury-prone Keith Rivers, and converted DE Mathias Kiwanuka. Even though we signed Dan Connor yesterday, I think the Giants can use one more LB via FA. Justin Durant was not talked about much due to him playing in JAC, but he is a solid LB who can bring a great presence. Maualuga has disappointed in CIN, and can join Keith Rivers in NY to revitalize their careers. Maualuga has the talent and the potential, he just has to be able to use it. He met with the team last week, but he might want too much money for the Giants to make a move for him (as well as CIN "moving in" on getting him back). Dansby is my personal favorite. The Giants went after him when he was a free agent in 2007, but Dansby took his talents to South Beach. He was released a couple of days ago to clear cap room and to start a new regime in MIA. Dansby will want to play for a winner, and there have been connections between the Giants and Dansby. Will he join the team for less, knowing he has a great chance to start and that he will be on a contender? He can be their next Antonio Pierce. James Anderson was released by CAR to clear cap space, just like Dansby. Anderson is a pure tackler, and is a good all-around player. There have been no connections to Anderson and the Giants, though there is a lot of time for talks to surface. Last is Nick Barnett, who has not been talked about since his release in February. He can possibly come dirt cheap to the Giants, and will provide a nice presence in the middle along with Connor.
GROUP 2: DEFENSIVE ENDS
[6] Dave Tollefson [7] Andre Carter
- Although it STILL might be possible for Osi to return due to the market being a lot worse for DEs than anyone imagined, I think he will go to a bad team where he can start. However, there are a couple of guys who can come in and produce. Dave Tollefson was a key reserve on the DL for many years, but went to Oakland last year to get more playing time (and more money). Well, he was released last week in OAKs hopes of starting from the beginning and rising up. Tollefson might pull a Aaron Ross, and elect to come back for cheap (though no one knows the contract terms for Aaron Ross, yet). He knows the system too, so he will not lose a step. The other is Andre Carter, who is a great speed rusher, Ala Osi Umenyiora. He put up great stats in NE a couple of years ago, but has not garnered interest in a while. I am not completely sure of his situation since signing with Oakland, but he can come in cheap on a one year "prove it" deal and provide a pass rushing presence for the Giants.
GROUP 3: OFFENSIVE LINEMAN
[8] Kevin Boothe [9] Matt Slauson [10] Bobbie Williams [11] Eric Winston [12] Guy Whimper
- Many would argue that the worst spot for the Giants last year was offensive line. LUCKILY, Will Beatty was resigned to a long term deal, and he is by far our best OL on the roster. Snee and Baas take the RG and C spots, respectively. That leaves LG and RT to be filled. I am not sure how the Giants feel about putting Diehl to LG and starting James Brewer at RT. I think they SHOULD sign a OL for cheap so Diehl can be put out of his misery (and the Giants CAP misery). First is Kevin Boothe, who has played for the Giants since Jerry Reese took over as GM. He is very versatile, and that is where it might hurt the Giants. A couple of teams are looking into Boothe, which includes the Jets, Panthers, and Cardinals, among others. He will cost some money, so not sure if he will be back. Next is Matt Slauson, who is rumored to be a fit for the Giants if Boothe were to leave. Slauson played very well last year on a bad Jets team. He can come somewhat cheap, and if he does not pan out, the Giants have youngster Brandon Mosley to help out. Bobby Williams is a veteran guard who has played pretty well the past couple of years. There are rumors of him retiring, but I think he can take one more stab at it with a run with the Giants as a starter. Eric Winston was a top RT in the league two years ago, but slipped big time in KC last year, which might be in part to KCs struggles as a whole. He signed a 4yr, 22mil dollar deal with KC, and will most likely take less now. I think if it is possible to get Winston on a 3yr, 13mil dollar deal, they should highly consider it. Lastly is Guy Whimper, who was with the Giants before. He is a solid and versatile OL, and because he played in JAC last year, he is underrated and might be overlooked. A cheap contract would not be a bad thing for Whimper to do, especially on a one year" prove it" deal.
====================
WHAT DO I THINK CAN HAPPEN:
[1] Sign James Anderson to a 1 year, 2.5 million dollar deal. [2] Move Mathias Kiwanuka BACK to DE. [3] Sign Matt Slauson on a 1 year, 1.8 million dollar deal. [4] Sign Guy Whimper on a 1 year, 1.2 million dollar deal.

Kevin Boss reportedly recommended Brandon Myers to the Giants.

yeah boss realizes the mistake that he made by going elsewhere . i like the moves that you have being made, although i wonder whether the giants will go to free agency to fill those holes or try and move up in the draft.

They usually just stay where they are and go BPA along with need. The Giants have a couple of options to finish building the team. Hopefully they do not screw it up, which they usually don't.

The deals for Aaron Ross, Keith Rivers, and Ryan Mundy were ALL for the vet minimum. GREAT signings. === However, Plax want Phillips back

Strength of each position on the team:
RATING SCALE:
<5 === Yikes. Major moves have to be made to get this group back up to par. 6-7 === Someone is there to build around, but the group as a whole is weak and can use some fine tuning. 8 === Solid group of guys to work with. Maybe some fillers and depth guys can be added to give the group someone else to work with, or just a better core of players in general. 9 === Excellent group of players at the position. Not much you can do, except maybe add a player to help out as depth, or have a better core of players. 10 === Wow! This group is solid enough to not heed any more attention. This is a position of strength.
===============================================
Quarterback 10 [Eli Manning, Curtis Painter] --> Not much to say here. Eli is among the best QBs in the league, and makes everyone look better. Painter was a solid depth guy to bring in. The Giants are fine here. Running Back 9 [David Wilson, Andre Brown, Ryan Torain, Da'rel Scott] --> The depth is there at the position, but I am not sold on Ryan Torain helping the team as much as some would think. I think we can use someone better here. But I do not expect anyone else to be brought in here. FuillBack 10 [Henry Hynoski[/b] --> Hynoski! Flat out beast. A top run blocker, and is improving catching the ball out of the backfield and up the seem. We are set as long as Hynoski is here. Wide Receiver 10 [Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz, Rueben Randle, Louis Murphy, Jerrel Jernigan] -->Nothing to complain about here. Nicks is a top WR when healthy (which he wasn't last year). Cruz is a top slot WR. Randle showed much improvement towards the end of last year, and Murphy as a 4th WR is great. Tight End 9 [Brandon Myers, Adrien Robinson, Bear Pascoe] --> Myers will fill in for Bennett nicely. Myers has better hands than Bennett did, though Bennett was a better blocker. But Pascoe is there for blocking. The Giants have a conveyer belt of TEs, so they will always be solid here. Offensive Tackle 7 [Will Beatty, David Diehl, James Brewer] --> Beatty is the guy to build around here on the offensive line, and he is getting paid like the center piece, too. Diehl has to go as he is a liability, and I do not see any faith in James Brewer right now from the FO. Add a veteran, this grade goes up, considerably. Offensive Guard 6 [Chris Snee, Selvish Capers, Brandon Mosley] --> Though Snee is still a solid OL, he has declined in recent years. And with Boothe possibly leaving, we need someone to start on the other side. Capers is a backup, and Mosley is just not there yet. We need guys here. Center 9 [David Baas, Jim Cordle] --> Baas got a lot better last year, and is coming into his own as the starting center. However, I am not sold on Cordle as the backup. Getting a veteran backup for Baas would be beneficial, IMO.
Defense End 9 [Jason Pierre-Paul, Justin Tuck, Adewale Ojomo, Adrian Tracy, Justin Trattou] --> This group is great. I fully expect the Giants to draft a pass rusher early this year, so this will move to a 10 when that happens. I believe Tuck is on his last leg, and will not be a starter next year (hence, us drafting our new start opposite JPP in the draft). Defensive Tackle 10 [Linval Joseph, Cullen Jenkins, Shaun Rogers, Markus Kuhm, Marvin Austin] --> The Giants have a great mix of run stuffing and pass rushing here. Joseph is a force in the middle, and now with Jenkins and his ability to rush the passer, we will be better getting to the QB. Rogers and Kuhn are great depth. Outside Linebacker 8 [Jacquian Williams, Mathias Kiwanuka, Keith Rivers, Spencer Paysinger] --> If we do not draft the pass rusher early on, then it will be a linebacker, which would then send Kiwi back to DE. JWill is an emerging player on the Giants and is poised to break out. Rivers for the vet min is amazing, and Paysinger is coming into his own. The Giants are getting better here. Inside Linebacker 8 [Dan Connor, Mark Herzlich, Jake Mausau] --> I like the addition of Connor, but I am not sure of our depth. Herzlich has not shown enough to be trusted on the field. I like Mausau a lot, but not sure if the FO will give him a shot. Not sure what will happen here, but the group is solid. Cornerback 10 [Corey Webster, Prince Amukamara, Jayron Hosley, Aaron Ross, Terrell Thomas] --> This group went from weak to solid. Amukamara and Hosley are both getting better. And the signing of Ross (which, by the way, at the vet min, is AMAZING) and resigning of Terrell Thomas is great depth. Now if Webster struggles, we have guys to replace him with. Safety 10 [Antrel Rolle, Stevie Brown, Will Hill, Ryan Mundy, Tyler Sash] --> Great depth here, too. Even though I am mad we lost Philips (and as such a low cost, too), we still have guys that can play. Hill is poised to break out this year, and Mundy at the vet min is great to have.
Kicker 10 [Josh Brown, Dave Buehler] --> Tynes is gone, which is bittersweet. Though he was clutch in many instances, he misses WAY too many close FGs last year, and now we have someone accurate from short, and can actually kick a ball past 50 yards. Buehler will give Brown a run to the job, though I think Brown has the job. Punter 10 [Steve Weatherford] --> Don''t miss Dodge at all. Weatherford is clutch for us, and was probably our best FA signing last year. KR/PR 9 [David Wilson, Louis Murphy, Jerrel Jernigan, Jayron Hosley] --> While this group can be a 10, I do not see the Giants letting Wilson take the KR and PR duties since now he is the top RB on the roster. And I think Hosley will see a lot more playing time this year, which leaves less time for KR and PR as well. Murphy and Jernigan are great, but we can have better.

actually dont agree on Eli being top notch anymore. I think he is a mid pack QB and im done defending him. Not saying we need a new QB just saying he is mid pack and no better. Agree with the rest of your ranking tho good stuff

dan, he is top 10 to me.
Peyton, Brady, Rodgers, Brees are the obvious ones. At this point in time, Flacco and Ryan get the nod over Eli. Ben and Eli both slumped a little last year, IMO.
Uh, Kapernick and Luck can have a case made as well.
Missing anyone?

Alex smith.matt schaub...hell romo and rivers had better years last year. Eli didnt slump a little he slumped alot in big situations.
Im concerned I guess that Eli is on a down trend. He may pull back next year and prove me wrong, i hope he does. But statistically speaking eli wasnt even a top 15 last year.
