BREAKING NEWS: Buccaneers sign DT McCoy to 7-Year/$98 Mil

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed Defensive Tackle Gerald McCoy to a 7-year/$98 Million extension, keeping him in Tampa through 2021 with $51.5 Million guaranteed. He is making $14 Million per year, which is more than Watt's contract is paying him per season ($13.5 Million). That makes Gerald McCoy the highest paid Defensive Tackle in the NFL.

This is someone who I could see getting paid like a top QB - not Gerald 'whoever tf he is' McCoy. He is expendable, and his contract is around double what he'd have coming on some other teams, or what his actual value is. The Bucs have far more serious issues they should be throwing their money at.

He's a big force on that Dline, I guess the reason they think he will stay at that level is he's a young very talented DT.

Watt and McCoy play two different positions. And 14 mil per year is not top tier QB money. It's top defensive player money. (Less than Sherman I think.)
You're probably exaggerating the double thing, the franchise tag number was 10 million for DTs I think. And I'm sure atleast a handful of teams would have paid what the bucs paid.

Yeah, I exaggerated, fine 2/3rds maybe, 3/4 a stretch. Be sure about that handful, not about to argue with someone who gets off on it, neither of us can prove anything. Given the time or inclination, I could come up with a zillion players that were young and talented, and fell off or a flash in the pan. This guy's done nothing in even the 'flash in the pan' kinda way. Ridiculous, sickest money imaginable IMHO.

If you don't have the time or inclination to discuss a football topic, then whatever Dive.

But if you read the article, McCoy had 80 pressures last year. He has 20 sacks in 56 starts from the DT position. That's fairly impressive more so if you consider his injuries.

But you're right Dive, discussing -anything- with you is not worth it. I assumed a bucs topic I could give me two cents without this getting personal. But I suppose not.

All I said is McCoy doesn't seem worth it. IDK how you could've taken the above to mean anything else, except you like to argue?
