Wes Welker's contract is 6 million per year, fully guaranteed.
Danny Amendola's contract can be as high as 6.2 million per year. Only 10 million of that entire contract is guaranteed. Amendola has over 500,000 a year in game day bonuses that require him to be active to receive that money. The rest of performance based incentives. Very little risk to 10 million guaranteed over a 5 year contract.
At some point you have to move on as a team. Randy Moss and Deion Branch were both very productive when they were traded away. Deion Branch was actually right in his prime, and Moss still appeared to have something left.
The receiving core went from one of the oldest in the league to the leagues youngest. The same thing happened with the Running backs 3 years ago, and the defense 5 years ago. This team never missed a beat, and has always been competitive. This year is no different, and it shouldnt shock anyone really.

Pats kid and Dive tie in this argument..imo. NE still top 5 team....but they could be even better if not for BB's and Krafts Jewry;( There is a difference between being cheap and being smart. If you spend to the maximum every year then you dont have money to keep your existing players in the future. If we wanted to we coulve kept all of our guys, and brought in veterans like Abraham or Freeney. Guys like Aqib Talib, Brandon Spikes, Ryan Wendall, and Julian Edelman would have little to no chance of getting an extension if we had choose to go the spend to the max route. Very good chance all of them are resigned. The Ravens were a very good example of poor cap management, considering the amount of guys they lost this off season. We will have at least 20 million in cap room this offseason. Which could be as much as 30 million depending on what happens with the Jonathan Fanene situation, and the Hernandez situation. We could easily bring back our current group of guys and still be able to bring in a couple of new guys, while being in a simular situation cap wise.

Sugar coat it all you want...I just imagine Mike Wallace or Dwayne Bowe or who ever with Brady....damn I would love to see that to. Wallace's contract wouldve never happened though. Even though our receivers havent been great this season I see them being very good long term. Dobson has potential to be a great receiver in this league. He is really raw talent right now, but he has the coaching staff and the QB to develop him into a great receiver. Thompkins looks like he is going to stick around for a while. He reminds me a lot of a young Chad Johnson, and not just because he wears the number 85. His routes are really good, he has decent speed, and he is very smart.

Okay..I gotta ask this question...the frick does "raw" mean? People use it all the time regarding players...and I've never understood what it meant. Someone please explain.

I tend to use it for someone who is physically gifted but lacking mechanics. That big de the lions drafted. Or Brian quick the WR for the rams.

The wins are not as resounding as they once were, they look pretty beatable. Hopefully the return of Gronk will fix that somewhat. Seem to recall Randy Moss having 2 great years there, then he fell off the cliff the next year and they cut him. Is that what happened? You no doubt recall better than me. Branch was probably a bit underutilized from the start. His strength was route-running, but they had a lot of other weapons. Pats kid and Dive tie in this argument..imo. NE still top 5 team....but they could be even better if not for BB's and Krafts Jewry;( JEWRY...what does that mean exactly?

NE still top 5 team....but they could be even better if not for BB's and Krafts Jewry;( JEWRY...what does that mean exactly? You have to look long term when you continue to build a team, and money is a big part of that. Randy Moss gave us 3 really good seasons, and wasnt playing bad when he was traded. He was traded 5 games into the season, even while he was putting up solid numbers. I hated the move when it happened, but it worked out great from a production standpoint, and from a financial standpoint. The biggest issue with this current team is in the red zone. Gronk has more tds in the redzone than anyone else in the league, since Gronk entered the NFL. That stat includes all the games he has missed. When you have Gronk on the field you not only get great production from him, but you open things up for your receivers. As for Deion Branch are you talking about his first stretch with the team or his second stretch? We traded him after the 05-06 season which was actually his best season in his career. The issue there was money which we wernt going to pay him, so we traded him to Seattle for a first round pick. Seattle gave him the big contract, Branch didnt produce, 4 years later we get him back for a 4th round pick, right after we traded away Randy Moss. Branch gave us 1 good season, and 1 decent season and then he lost a step last season. He was very slow last year and route running was inconsistent. He got limited snaps as a 3rd receiver last year, and was nothing more than a decoy. Brady rarely looked his way, and defenses knew that. Its tough to say the wins arnt as resounding as they were before for a couple reasons. I dont think anyone expected the offense to have a big day week 1 with all the new receivers. The quick turn around for a Thursday night game made it hard to expect anything for week 2. I was impressed with our performance against Tampa Bay. New Orleans, Atlanta, and Cincinnati are 3 teams that a lot of people had as playoff contenders this year, we played awful against Cincinnati, but played very well against Atlanta and New Orleans. I think this offense will get a lot better in the next few weeks. I have no reason to believe this offense wont be as good as it was last year by the end of this year.

Tavon Wilson and Aqib Talib both ruled out. 2 more players to downgrade.
