Vereen apparently wants 5 million per year. I doubt he gets that on the open market and no chance he gets anywhere close to that in New England. He is looking at somewhere between Darren Sproles and Danny Woodhead money. I still think he will wind up back in New England, but I think he will be on the open market for a while.
Stevan Ridley on the other hand is doing very well and is 4 weeks ahead of schedule, should be ready to go by May. Good chance he returns to New England on a 1 year veteran minimum deal, with some incentives.
I expect Mccourty will receive the Franchise tag, although I do expect a deal will get done this offseason.
The deal with Revis is pretty straight forward. Basically you can pay him 12-14 million to play in New England, or 5 million to play for someone else. So a difference of 7-9 million per year. Simple fact is you are not going to get a player anywhere close to his level for 7-9 million per year, and that we are not going to just leave that position empty.
Signing Revis to an extension with an annual average of 12-14 million per year automatically frees up 11-13 million in cap space. The cap is estimated at 143 million and 6 million will roll over from last year, giving us 149 million in cap room. We currently sit at 151 million, so you resign Revis and end up with at least 9 million in cap space. You resign Solder to a long term deal and you free up 3-4 million. Mayo and Wilfork will likely restructure, giving roughly 3-4 million each. Now something is going to happen with Amendola. Without his playoff impact, no way we win the Superbowl. Bu 5.7 million cap hit is too big for his current role. No way he gets more than that on the open market, so plenty of interest on both sides to come to an agreement.
So really there is no reason to believe this team wont be almost identical to last year. Now we have a situation where we are not going to go after any big name free agents, but some cheaper veterans looking to get a ring and rookies. From a draft prospective I dont think there is one position we have to go after. You can eliminate QB all together, and WR, TE, and LB from at least the first 2 rounds. Ideally getting a pass rushing specialist would make a pretty big difference. Dominique Easley will be returning from what was really a redshirt year, so that gives you some interior help. Nincovich and Jones basically didnt get a break last season, which is not a good long term plan. So I would expect we add an edge rusher and my guess would be an interior offensive linemen within the first two rounds, but it will always come down to BPA and value.

Larry Fitzgerald rumors over and the Percy Harvin rumors begin lol.
Belichick pretty clearly likes the guy, but the only way he winds up in New England is on a low money deal with incentives and no injury guarantees. I am sure Belichick would utilize him a lot better than he has been utilized so far throughout this career, but the only thing he has proven is that he hasnt been able to stay on the field and is inconsistent when on the field.
Hard to say what you are really getting with a guy like Harvin. Even tougher considering the QB's he has had throughout his career.

This should be titled the 2015 Super Bowl Beneficiaries Thread. Or the New England Circle Jerk Contest Thread. Personally, I find it highly, highly ironic when you run around calling patsk1d and morkim trolls given the fact you routinely make comments like this. And yet, that's exactly what this thread is. Sorry, calling a spade a spade isn't trolling.

Sorry, calling a spade a spade isn't trolling. What? Yeah, no. It's a Patriots offseason thread with "Superbowl champion" in the thread title. Just because it pisses you off that the Patriots won the Superbowl doesn't make it a troll. Sorry you can't deal with the fact that Brady got another ring.

In other news... Patriots WR Brian Tyms is closing in on a new deal with the Patriots. He is basically a deep ball specialist, who doesnt offer much more. Still I think he will be utilized more next season.

NYDN reports that revis will give the pats a small discount, but is open to leaving if another team pays more for him.

NYDN reports that revis will give the pats a small discount, but is open to leaving if another team pays more for him. Honestly these reports are all garbage. No one has inside information on this situation and all these guys are just speculating. Revis did give the Pats a discount last season when he signed up here, so one would assume he would do the same thing again. But Revis is going to be the Pats priority. Mccourty is a great safety, but Revis is a far better player and is far more important to this team.

Amendola and Revis moves should come tomorrow. Very few people expect Amendola will be back under this contract, so either restructure or release. I expect Revis will make a decision by Friday.
Wilfork was released two days before the media got a hold of that news and Wilfork broke the news himself. So its pretty clear that moves can/could have been made without us knowing.

Cecil Shorts, Percy Harvin, Brian Hartline, and Eddie Royal seem to be the likely targets.
So basically the Pats are not going to be targeting big name receivers like Maclin or T. Smith, but the mid-level guys. I wouldnt rule out Andre Johnson if the numbers are right.
