Final Mock - 05/05/2014
1. HOU - Jadaveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina - I don't like this pick.. This is not what I think the Texans should do. In fact I think the Texans should trade down with the Falcons to the 6th pick and and take a QB there as well as stock up on some picks. Butttt I think this is what will happen.
2. STL(via WAS) - Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn - This pick is more because I honestly have no clue what will happen here. They could go many different ways whether it is Mack, Watkins, Mathews, Robinson and even Lewan is in play at this spot. Not to mention they could easily trade down and gain more picks.
3. JAC - Jake Mathews, OT, Texas A&M - A QB at this spot won't solve all of the issues that Jacksonville has. They will still be picking in the top 5 next year in my eyes and a QB at this spot won't do much to change that. This pick is more a pick for the future of the team. They get a career LT who will do a lot for any QB at the Jags helm this year.
4. CLE - Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson - The combination of Gordan, Watkins and Jordan excites me. I think it could be one of the best air groups in the league and it gives any QB a hell of a trio to throw to.
5. OAK - Kalil Mack, OLB, Buffalo - This guy is just too good to pass up at this point in the draft. They could go with a QB, but they have Shaub to man the position for a season and again a QB won't turn this team into a winning one this season, but adding Mack to that defense makes this team one that won't be easy to beat.
6. ATL - Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan - And just like that they top 3 tackles are off the board. No Mack, no Clowney for them, but Lewan will help give Ryan time to win them a few games.
7. TB - Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M - People seem to think Glennon needs to be replaced, I really don't. I say give him another season this time with a healthy Doug Martin, and two big dominating receiving threats and he will make a case to be there starter. Not to mention they brought in Luke McCown to hold down the fort for a season.
8. MIN - Blake Bortles, QB, UCF - Now this is a team that is a good QB away from becoming competitive. On offense they have everything in place but a QB. Bortles could easily make this team a contender in a tough division.
9. BUF - Eric Ebron, TE, UNC - This gives a young developing QB another nice weapon.
10. DET - Anthony Barr, DE/OLB, UCLA - Barr is argueably the BPA right now, and Detroit has a habit of taking the BPA especially if they fill a need, which Barr does. So Barr ends up in Detroit making that front 7 even more fun for other teams to face!
11. TEN - Justin Gilbert, CB, Oaklahoma St - Tennessee lost Alteraun Verner this off season and with the way this draft has worked out so far, they decided to draft his replacement.
12. NYG - Aaron Donald, DT, Pittsburgh - Donald is the BPA at this point as well as he fills a big need for the giants. So they happily grab Donald who will bolster their D-line and hopefully bring their pass rush back to being one of the most fierce in the league.
13. STL - Haha Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama - The rams have on of the worst safety situations in the league and decide to fill in with arguably the best safety in the draft.
14. CHI - CJ Mosely, ILB, Alabama - Bears missed Urlacher last year a LOT, and Jon Bostic just doesn't look like the run stopping force, nor the leader at ILB they need. So the Bears grab Mosely and hand over the long standing tradition of being a bears MLB to the young man from Alabama.
15. PIT - Darqueez Dennard, CB, Michigan St - Big physical corner just the type the Steelers love. After Taylor struggled last year they decided to draft his successor with the 15th pick.
16. DAL - Timmy Jerinigan , DT, FSU - The Cowboys NEED to address their defense. Their offense is ok for this year, but their defense needs to be addressed, and the best way to fix a defense is to start with the very middle and work out from there, so with their first pick they grab the big man from Florida state to pair with a hopefully healthy Henry Melton giving them a forcible rush up the middle.
17. BAL - Zack Martin, OT, Notre Dame - Baltimore lost its starting RT in Michael Oher to the Titans and in doing so left a gaping hole on the right side of their line. Anyone who watches a Ravens game should realise how bad Flacco is any time he is under any kind of pass rush, so this needs to be addressed and Martin is the best guy left to do so.
18. NYJ - Odell Beckam Jr., WR, LSU - What do the Jets need more than offensive weapons for Geno? Beckam is Mike Mayocks #3 WR on the board so I am giving him to the Jets.. His talents should be a vast upgrade from anything the Jets have now and help Geno on his way to becoming a mediocre QB in the league
19. MIA - JuWuan James, OT, Tennessee - There has been a lot of talk about how in love the Dolphins are with this guy. A have done some reading up on him and a lot of people are calling him the best RT in the draft. Miami has considered him a first round talent so they reach and grab a guy who fills one of their biggest needs. I would prefer for them to trade down if the draft plays out like this, but I would be fine with James here as well.
20. ARI - Rasheed Hageman, DE/DT, Minnesota - Darnell Docket is getting old and his play is dropping off considerably. So Arizona pre-emptively drafts his replacement.
21. GB - Calvin Pryor, S, Louisville - The Pack don't have much talent, if any at the safety position anymore. So with Pryor falling into their lap there is no way they pass up on him.
22. PHI - Brandin Cooks, WR, Oregon St - I think this guy is the true #3 receiver in the draft, and I think Philly is stealing him at 22. He will be a wonderful replacement for Jackson and hopefully a far higher character guy then DJax ever was. This gives Foles a great target to throw to this up coming season.
23. KC - Marquees Lee, WR, USC - I think Lee is a vastly underrated prospect and I think KC is getting a damned good value here. Between him Bowe and Dressler(I have faith in my man) I believe they could have one of the best receiving cores in the league.
24. CIN - Kony Ealy, DE, Missouri - With the best CBs off the board and the loss of Michael Johnson this off season Cincinnati grabs the DE out of Missouri to keep their pass rush as a dominate one.
25. SD - Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech - San Diego needs a CB, Fuller is the best one on the board.
26. CLE(via IND) - Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M - And just like that Manziel falls all the way to 26 and the Browns happily scoop him up. IRL someone will likely trade up ahead of the Browns if Manziel falls this far and grab him.
27. NO - Ryan Shazier, OLB/ILB, Ohio St - Sorry MO.. The Saints need an ILB to replace Hawthorne as he hasn't been very good. Shazier is the BPA that isn't a QB and he fits a Saints need, so they scoop him up and pair him with Lofton for a very good ILB pairing.
28. CAR - Jason Verrett, CB, TCU - I know I know the Panthers need a WR.. but I am really not feeling the receivers that are left for this pick.. Something people seem to be forgetting is that the Panthers are as hard off at CB as they are at WR and Verrett is the better choice at this juncture in the daft and there is more of a drop off at the CB position than there is at the WR position in this draft. The Panthers could consider moving up for a guy like Moncreiff in the second round.
29. NE - Louis Nix, NT, Notre Dame - Vince Wilforks successor is here.
30. SF - Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio St - 49ers really need help in their secondary and Roby will hopefulyl by that guy.
31. DEN - Xavier Su'a Filo, OG, UCLA - With the loss of Beadles the Broncos need to sure up their line, as Manning is essentially a sitting duck back there. Until he retires they need to keep him protected.
32. SEA - Joel Bitonio, OL, Nevada - Seattle needs to fix their line, its rather amazing that they won a superbowl having as mediocre of a line as they do.
