I don't know why the ratings would be down. I only started watching due to the league we are in. I like it. My old room mate was an avid fan. But he's homeless now and I'm not even sure he's still alive. I can't find him.
Jimmy? Jimmy? haha. Why because he's so good? I think maybe lots of Jeff Gordon fans may have jumped ship. Wasn't he one of the biggest draws a few years ago? I remember my room mate hated him. Loved Jr. All the rain outs early in the season may have caused some issues with viewers.

I'm not sure if i'm the only one that keeps up with NASCAR tv ratings, but they are consistently down this year. Michigan got a 2.7 rating, which was about 4.2 mil (albeit NASCAR still beat the World Cup). www.jayski.com/news/pages/story/_/page/NASCAR-Televison-Ratings-2014 Not very good, and this was in a race after Dale Jr won. Any thoughts on what's wrong? Because the racing is pretty good. Is it the Chase? Lack of interest in racing? Bad broadcasting? Jimmie? I'm brand new to this thing. I can't wade through all that stuff, but a few observations and questions. The author lists every race like they are in the same order every year. Is that true? He also lists the the network as having been the same for 5 years. Is cannot be true. Random thoughts... A lot of people don't get the TNT Network. I do, but not the channel that was in the 600+ range they had the practices on. I had to flip through those channels one by one only to find I had to order an expanded service, so no way - I pay and really get all the channels I usually need. NASCAR seems to do a piss poor job of programming consistency. Sat or Sun, early afternoon, mid, or evening. FOX, TNT, ESPN, ABC. Then the practices and qualifying are on different channels. I think people give up. And my feeling is that people into NASCAR want to watch all that stuff. It's hard to sustain a high level of viewer interest the way it is. Okay, probably an usual number of rain delays early on (like 5 in the 1st 8 weeks or so?) And how do they handle it? They put on last year's race. So people channel surf awhile, come back and think the race is back on. Was it Jimmie that was getting congrats tweets after the show? They never (or not frequently enough) tell the viewers it's still a delay, and you're watching a repeat. 3 hours later, they resume the race, and you missed most of it. It had to infuriate people, I was a bit ticked. Now I'm not a TV station programming director. There are probably good, sound financial reasons it's set up like it is. Also, didn't they change stuff this year? Like qualifying. I can't make heads or tails what the last 2 (sometimes just 1?) post-qual practices are supposed to be about. Also, it's like football obviously, but ya think a higher % of NASCAR watchers are in fantasy leagues? If yes, they should gear the pre-race discussion a little more to that.

Hmmmm, promote some fantasy NASCAR? Thats an cool thought, they do a little on NASCAR.com. The networks have been the same since 2007 I think. Fox has been broadcasting the first half since 2001. NBC is coming back on board next year, with LeTarte, Jeff Burton, and Rick Clark, its a good crew. The races are usually the same, with maybe a couple of race changes here and there. And Jimmie drowns interest because of his winning, not his fault, but his dominance is boring, nobody but 48 fans like seeing Jimmie win, I like seeing him finish 2nd behind Jeff. Alot of people see him as vanilla and lacking any interesting traits, could be true, to a degree. But the thing with Jimmie dominating as opposed to Jeff or Earnhardt Sr is that Sr and Jeff, Jeff especially, brought in new fans, Jimmie doesn't do that. When Jimmie wins, fans are like ugh, whatever. And then the Chase, I can't think of anybody that likes the Chase, especially us 24 fans, it cost Jeff 2 championships, but thats a Team 24 grip. And Jr fans aren't happy about anything, which surprises me about this year, he's doing really good and winning races, yet the ratings are down. I just see good racing, the top 2 fan nations (Jr and Jeff) winning, some interesting storylines, yet ratings are at major lows. Its perplexing. Which makes me think that either its the bad broadcasts, people are sick and tired of Jimmie, or theres just no interest in racing, the latter being the scariest.

There are numerous reasons why...
1 - Not everyone gets cable. Cable and satellite subscribers are cancelling. Its getting to be too expensive. 2 - The channels the race is on, are poor in race coverage. Too many commercials, too much talk, they dont shut up,racing order coverage sucks, etc etc. 3 - Alot of fans are sick of the sell out to profits, commercials,Danica Patrick, etc etc. 4 - Fans still have not come back after Dale Seniors death. 5 - People are frustrated with too many rule changes.

Again, I'm brand new to this. IDK about the Nationwide and Truck series. If some of this stuff is more recent, maybe the racing market is just becoming over-saturated. But I will say this...
It doesn't seem to me they try to make it interesting. They don't go out of their way to focus much on a human element or 'spin' if you will, on the drivers. Not enough color commentary, like a Madden. Not enough pre-race show. And for the practice and qualifying, they jump right in to the action. I feel like I'm not learning much except for the time and effort I put into my own research. IDK if it's cuz they pay for airtime.
Just said last post that is was confusing they do a practice, then the qual, then 2 more practices the next day. This week, it's 2 practices Fri, and the qual is Sat - that's it. Wish they'd at least explain why they do stuff like that. Oh well.

For what its worth Tbone. Nascar has not lost its luster here in my home town of El Cajon. I grew up on the same streets as Jimmy. Years before him of course. But this was in the paper this morning. And we are renaming 2nd street to Jimmy Johnson street. He is a local hero. 2nd street is where all us Granite hills high school peeps hung out. It's now Jimmy Johnson Drive. I wish I would have known about this event. I would have gone and gotten you an autograph. I live two miles from the event. www.utsandiego.com/news/2014/jun/18/tp-el-cajon-revs-up-for-jimmie-johnson/Check out the pictures. This was yesterday. Divebitch @jeffb2865 Nathan

Jimmy is around here very often. I will get some official picture of him and have him autograph it for anyone who wants one. I want one. I will keep the first one. But he will sign for me. I went to the same school. Same dirt trails on my mini bike. He has a chevy dealer ship here. He comes a lot.
I also went to the same elementry and jr high as him. I know the name of the street he grew up on. It was real close to my street. I'm sure I can get him to sign several pictures when I tell him about the nascar fantasy league. He's a real cool, real guy.

Mr. Steeler54. You will get the second one. I will tell Jimmy I need him to sign four or five. I have to find the picture though. I guarantee when I tell him who I am and where I come from and the nascar fantasy league and what I am doing with them. I can get em. Anyone else want one?
So far I need two.
All I gotta do is say "Hey Jimmy who was your teacher at Madison Elementry? I will get his attention. Or say hey Jimmy do your parents still live in Crest on **** Dr.?
Edit. I decided to sensor the street his parents live on.

Too bad you missed him today. It would've been fun to talk with him for a minute. Better chance though that he'd give you a bit more time outside a big event like that, when he could relax a bit. No need to get me an autograph, but thanks.
