It's not like Barr had a bad combine or anything, I read that he actually did quite well? He looked small and I don't like that he only put up 15 reps. Clowney only put up 21 but anyone who knows about lifting could see he uses a narrow grip and witth his long as kingkong arms putting up 21 was impressive. Barr showed me that his work ethic may not be there with a weak showing like that. Bench press literally shows nothing but how committeed a player is to getting in the weight room, and even then they may have good work ethic without so much as touching a the bench press. I'm more concerned if the guy has functional strength, laying on your back and pressing weight is a terrible way of showing that seeing as it focuses on specific muscle groups, you want to do exercises that use more muscle groups at once seeing as it reflects better on the field. I am worried about thin he is though, I'd hate to see him get pushed around in the run game. Did he participate in coverage and agility drills and do well? I know one thing if he looks good in coverage and in space then I'm game for wanting him. I'm worried about his lack of experience in coverage, but if he can show that he can make the transition then awesome. I'm sure a lot of you remember how obsessed I was with Dion Jordan last season, Barr is the same kind of player minus the experience and a bit less mass.

Barr showed me that his work ethic may not be there with a weak showing like that. He'll be fine. I honestly think of Aldon Smith when I think of Barr. Comparing their combine stats, Barr ran a .12sec faster 40, .5" higher vertical, 1" longer broad, .37sec faster 3 cone, and .31sec faster 20yd shuttle. 5 less bench press reps than Smith (which is indeed extremely low at 15). Barr is 1 inch taller and 8 pounds less heavy than Smith. I was very impressed by Barr's manner in the interviews as well. He seems very respectful and intelligent.
The thing is Smith was always going be a hybrid player, while Barr is a sure thing OLB. I think he compares more to a better version of Mingo

As I said before...I like Barr...just a warning flag about a guy who needs to get by OTs with not very much upper body strength is all. I do agree lower body strength is more important...but when locked up with an OT you have to be able to push back.

Honestly like I said it's about useless other than building mass in the upper body. My biggest issue with him is can OTs push his pass rushing arc wide fairly easily or can Barr really turn the corner? And does he have heavy hands? Sure you can be fast but it'll only get you so far with a weak pass rushing move, you don't have to have big arms to pack a punch with your hands. It was pretty well known that I wasn't in favor of drafting Jarvis Jones before the draft, mainly because of the Steeler's OLB draft history and still having Worilds. But also because I was worried about his slight frame, they both compare fairly well.

Shit I hope Gilbert didn't just put his stock way ahead of the Steelers. He seems like a good Steeler DB. athleticism? Check. Good tackler? Check. Only problem I have is I don't know of what kind of experience he has in zone. Verrett looked pretty dang good as well.

I doubt he drops to the Steelers sir.

Loved when he was looked at as an early 2nd. Now he has flown up. I he is there at 15 he should absolutely be considered.

steelersfan4life56If the bench didn't matter. It wouldn't be included in the Combine.I do agree it may get valued too much...but it does matter.

steelersfan4life56If the bench didn't matter. It wouldn't be included in the Combine.I do agree it may get valued too much...but it does matter. It just doesn't make sense. It focuses on only certain muscles, when you're blocking and extending with your arms against another player you're using a ton of muscles. I guess arm strength is important in some aspects but it's not a huge factor.
