"Sam's announcement did not come as a surprise to most NFL teams. Sam's sexual orientation was considered an open secret in his college town of Columbia, Mo., and the assistant personnel man said he believed "90 percent of teams" were already aware that Sam was gay and had dropped him on their draft boards. He estimated that of the 32 NFL franchises, only two or three didn't know prior to Sunday night's news. He projected that it will impact Sam's draft status "quite a bit."sportsillustrated.cnn.com/college-football/news/20140209/michael-sam-draft-stock/?eref=sihpSo dumb. Imo, if I was a GM or whatever, I'd see Sam coming out as a positive. It takes a tremendous amount of courage and character to speak up like Sam did, and I'd want high character guys like that in my locker room. A lot of mixed reports at this point on how it will effect his stock. Sounds like Missouri players knew about this for pretty much all of Sam's career. That didnt seem to effect Missouri's team, and I think GM's/HC will have to consider that.

I do not think they are saying it was necessarily a negative. Obviously, this will help the game in the long run. But they are just saying that the culture of the NFL is different. It will take time for the culture of locker rooms to adapt to that sort of thing. It is just how it is. I still see him being drafted, but do not be surprised if he drops - unfortunate, yes, but the truth. I see him going to a team that has its heads on its shoulders.

But it wasn't a problem in Mizzou's locker room, so why would it be a problem in an NFL locker room? (where the players are older and generally more mature than college players)

(where the players are older and generally more mature than college players) I would not know since I have not played college football or professional football, but the environment seems different. The coaches I assume keep a closer eye on their guys in college. In the NFL, you do what you think you need to do.

(where the players are older and generally more mature than college players) Because someone is older doesn't mean they are more mature, especially when it comes to things like people being gay. In fact I would assume there are more people in the NFL who are homophobic than in college because of the times they grew up in. In the past 5 to 10 years the "pro-gay" movement has become a far bigger deal than it was in the 90s or even early 2000s. We have been exposed more to openly gay people on TV, in movies and all sorts of places in our years of growing and trying to find ourselves and in these years it is far easier to accept these things as we are questioning so much of life as it is. Not saying there aren't older people who are accepting of it as well, just that the % is smaller as they were exposed to less of it. Its like how a higher % of people every year became accepting of black people the more they were exposed to them. You get used to the differences you are exposed to..

I have some things to say, but I think I will just keep my mouth shut. And Dive, the first thing that came to my mind was Manti also. Come on Craig, you know you are amongst friends. And trolls. Oh when will I learn to be more like you? Okay here is my take on the subject. I'm sick of it. Gay this gay that. The Olympics are filled with it. The TV is on it all the time. There is parades in my city where men wear bra's and panty's and dance down the street like ballerina's. If they did that on the street without the parade, they would be arrested for indecent exposure or taken to a mental hospital. And over a hundred thousand people take their kids to watch. I don't get it. I don't care if you're gay. But why do you have to force it on me? Just go have sex with your partner and leave me out of it. I'm not judging you and I don't care. But the idea of a man having sex with another man is disgusting to me. So I don't want to hear about it. And to come out and admit it does not make you a hero in my eyes. My ultra liberal family always pushes gay rights. To the point of obsession. None of them are gay, yet they are obsessed with gay rights. I don't get that either. Did you know that California has passed a law that kids in school can now choose their gender? If a boy feels like he is a girl trapped in a boy body he can use the girls bathrooms, locker rooms, and even play on the girls sports teams? THAT IS NO KIDDING. It's gone to far. Just shut up about your sexual preference and play the game. I'm just sick of how all this is going. Oh and the law in Russia is "You can not spread propaganda about homosexuality where minors might see it" It's not as bad a law as you might think. Russia is not America, you don't have some rights. I hope I made myself clear, as its hard to really express something like this in type. If you have a question for me or if something rubbed you wrong, please speak up. As some of this may be taken out of context.

I'll go on a little bit. My mom tells me "well gay people are born that way". Maybe so for some. But I grew up with one of my best friends who was a chick magnet. He looked like Jose Consecco. He had lots and lots of girlfriends all thru high school. In his late twenty's he was gay. He died of Aids.
I have another friend who I have known for over thirty years. He has been married for twenty five years and has two kids. He was always a horndog for girls. He has Parkinsons disease and takes medication. He claims the meds made him gay. Marlene was gone one night and he spent the night here. He acted really strange and said to me "I want to suck your dick". I was shocked. I said "no way, I've never had a gay experience and I'm not going to have one now" So was he born gay? I say NO. (by the way, we are still friends, but he will never hit on me again)
My brother in law tells the story of his best friend since childhood. In his early thirties he decided he was gay. He started to talk with a lisp. My brother in law, who NEVER holds his tongue said "What the fuck dude, you don't talk like that"
So I guess my point is, being exposed to something to much may not be good. Over tolerance can be a bad thing sometimes. If we tolerate something that is evil we may become evil. I'm not saying gays are evil, just making a point.

There is a lot in your two posts that I have an issue with, but I do not feel like getting into it, so I will simply reply to two of your points.
== "I don't care if you're gay. But why do you have to force it on me? Just go have sex with your partner and leave me out of it. I'm not judging you and I don't care. But the idea of a man having sex with another man is disgusting to me. So I don't want to hear about it. And to come out and admit it does not make you a hero in my eyes." ==
They are not forcing it on you at all. In the case of Michael Sam, whatever the media does with the news in on them. Then you bring this idea of them not being a hero. First of all, who is proclaiming them a hero? I do think it is a very brave thing to do, however (not a hero). You do not seem to understand the fact that many people in society today do not accept people being gay. This is 2014 - there are thousands of gay people. And you also do not seem to understand the toll not telling people has on a person. They essentially cannot be themselves because they are forced to be someone they are not. If someone is gay and cannot admit it to someone because they fear people won't see them the same or talk to them, how does that make them feel? They want to fit in like everyone else. They are not saying it so people know he likes having intercourse with men - that is just plain stupid. They say it to take a big burden off of their shoulders.
== If we tolerate something that is evil we may become evil. I'm not saying gays are evil, just making a point. ==
You ARE saying gays are evil. You are saying that if we allow something, being gay, that is evil, then we become evil. Your view right there is part of the reason why you don't see more people admitting it - because it is view of those people who bring people down and don't accept them for who they are. And you cannot say that gays being evil was not your point because you brought up a pretty irrelevant example about one of your friends dying because he got aids from being gay. Do you not see how ignorant that statement was? You act like girls do not have aids? He could have very well gotten it from a girl and died when he was experiencing with guys. You are letting a few of your personal experiences get to you and it is forcing you to judge an entire community of people.
