There were more deserving songs/albums, from what I hear. All these "Award Shows" are completely biased anyway. That's why movies like "Argo" win Best Film. bias or racist? btw i will get back to your reply from before a little later on I wouldn't say "racist", unless it was obvious. I didn't watch the awards, nor do I listen to rap music, so I'm probably the least qualified guy here to say whether or not Mackelmore deserved to win or not.

speaking of twists of racism. Its now racist for a white guy to win rap categories on the music awards. God bless america What are people saying about it?

People are basically saying Macklemore only won all the awards that he won because he is white. It sounds like the common thought that he did deserve the award for best song, because of the popularity of Thrift Shop, but some of the other awards are more controversial. Seems to be pretty much a consensus that Kendrick Lamar deserved to win Album of the Year. Seems like people aren't necessarily just pissed that he is white and he won, it's that he's white and he wasn't deserving of everything that he won. If Eminem won, I bet it is a different story because he seems to have proven himself much more in the hip hop community. In fact.. this link shows how many hip hop awards he has won. I know there was some controversy about him when he first came out, but it seems like he has earned the respect now.

Ya know..I would add my two cents in this thread again,,,but it just aint worth it. Theres so many opinionated views in this world..you will never get a couple of people to agree with you, much less everybody. Im pretty much done with any kind of replies concerning politics, religion,or the overly politically correct, deranged society we live in now.

Just ran across this article.. Classy move by Mackelmore. Agreed about the Eminem part. And that still kind of continues today with him, truthfully. I think just about everybody admits Eminem is good, and I guess the majority of people agree he's one of the best rappers in history, but I've heard some people (not a huge amount, but enough) say he only gets put in that top 5/top 10 range because he's white. (which I disagree with, for what it's worth)

I respect your decision to hold back getting into these kinds of discussions. I think a person's reason for getting into these types of discussion really dictate how the discussion will pan out. For example, if my intent when discussing religious or political issues, is to get more people to change their minds and believe what I believe, then it will be a difficult and pointless process. However, if my goal is simply to have the discussion and hear opposing views, then it can be very productive for me. I know I can come across as an atheistic, liberal douche sometimes, but it is not my goal to make everyone think and act like me. I don't think I know 100% about everything and I learn a lot by having these discussions that either helps me solidify my thoughts on an issue or helps me to form different opinions. When I first came on this forum I was a little more confrontational about certain issues and I remember snapping at you once or twice Jeff (as well as a few others), but I have learned a lot since then and feel like I am much better at keeping a cool head and discussing things in a much more respectful manner now. I still like to have these discussions but I'm learning to get less emotional about it. Edit: Or maybe I just like you more now, since you made the switch to the Broncos

(which I disagree with, for what it's worth) It's good to see Macklemore acknowledging Lamar as well. I don't know enough about him to really form an opinion yet. I like the message he sent with is song "Same Love", though I don't really know yet if he really believes that or if he is just trying to build his popularity by using an issue that is so talked about right now. I hope he really does believe all that stuff and continues to support the LGBT community. Eminem has always been one of my favorite rappers. I don't listen to much rap anymore, but I still like a lot of his stuff (old and new). I honestly think that if people did not know what color his skin was, they would still consider him one of the best of all time. His ability to put words together, to make words rhyme that should never rhyme, his cadence and his ability to put out a mix of ridiculous and goofy songs, deep and meaningful songs, and serious politically fueled songs all combines to make him one of the best ever. I don't care what color he is. I also really like artists like Tupac and NAS from way back, and current guys like Classified and Kanye (only at times.. he can be a real arrogant ass sometimes). It doesn't matter what color they are, they are just talented individuals.
