So Jindred and I are hardcore Rider fans, as most of you know. I figured I would start a thread, since I don't follow NCAA closely enough, where we could post new signings for the Riders and get some feedback from the NCAA experts on this forum. In the CFL, teams are constantly signing players who are NCAA studs that never panned out in the NFL, so I am always curious to know what the fans think of some of these players. coltsrockjcr, Jancey, EagleDomiKnation, MarchingOn, cityofchamps You guys are the ones I see talk the most about NCAA, so I figured I would reach out to you all first! So here are the guys I am curious about: Our 3rd string QB right now is Pittsburgh's Tino Sunseri. Any Pittsburg fans have anything to say about Tino? He looked great in spring camp but, as a third string we haven't had a chance to see him do anything since. We just recently made some other signings as well: Ryan Katz, QB (San Diego State/Oregon State) DeMarco Sampson WR (San Diego State) Thomas Mayo WR (California (PA)) James Lee OL (South Carolina State) Troy Stoudermire DB/KR (Minnesota) Mortty Ivy LB (West Virgina)

CoC is a Pittsburgh fan, so he can tell you about Sunseri, and eagle is a Oregon St fan, so he could tell you about Katz.. I really haven't heard of any of these guys, sorry bronco. Just through google though, I found some of their stats: (make sure to switch to their college stats) Demarco SampsonMortty Ivy

Now when you say Sunseri looked "great" you mean he had a strong arm and running ability. He had far less touch on the ball and was far less accurate than Durant or Willy.

I know about Sunseri because I watched him a lot in college. He is a smart QB and is a great game-manager. Goes through his progressions quickly and has a good arm. The knocks on him are his size and his ability to throw on the run, which you need as a barely 6 foot QB. Will also make some really bad throws occasionally. Not a very good athlete and will crumble under pressure at times. I don't know much about the CFL but he could eventually be a good QB down the line with some grooming.
I do know a little on Sampson because I really really liked him out of college. Great combo of speed and size. Pretty good hands. Good route runner and run blocker. Have no idea why he didn't pan out in the NFL because he was my biggest sleeper in the draft a few years back. You might have a good one in him.

Tino Sunseri is good, but he can be frustrating at times. He can make a great decision one minute, then a bad one the next. He also doesn't have all that strong of an arm. What hurt Sunseri the most in college was probably the fact that he had a different Offensive Coordinator each season he was a starter. However, I agree with the above-mentioned statement by coltsrokjcr that he was a good game-manager. If he had a good running game behind him (like he did with LeSean McCoy, Dion Lewis, and Ray Graham), he is more comfortable making the throws he needs to. When he tries to do stuff that he isn't used to or when he tries more riskier throws, he will probably throw an interception more often than not.
Mortty Ivy was a long-time mainstay on the Steelers' practice squad. He was on there for like 5 years or something like that before we ended up not resigning him. Other than that, I don't know too much about him.

Lol sorry Jin, I mean he looked great for a brand new guy coming into camp fighting for the final roster spot. I don't see him as a starter right now by any means, but I saw some potential there. Though from the sounds of things from coltsrock and CoC, he sounds to be an identical player to Darian Durant (from North Carolina), our current starter. He is the most exicting/frustrating QB ever, depending on a flip of a coin... Anyone know much about Drew Willy out of Buffalo? He is our 2nd stringer and we've had a chance to see him in a few games over the past couple years and he has seemed like a pretty decent back up option. I'm just curious what he was like in college. I can look up stats, but I like getting the detailed breakdown about what it was like to watch them as well. For some of you big time NCAA fans, it might be fun for you to browse through the rosters in the CFL. There are a lot of players that were huge NCAA stars that just never panned out in the NFL. So maybe some of those guys that you really liked to watch back in college but are nowhere to be found now, are actually making some noise north of the 49th! Over the last couple years we've had a few big name guys come through our system that didn't make the team, like Dwayne Jarrett and Limas Sweed. Both had the talent, just terrible attitudes.

Sorry saska...don't know any of these guys. :/ No worries. We did sign Jose Valdez, a former Razorback, early in the preseason, but he didn't stick around.

coltsrockjcr Jonathan Crompton is 2nd string QB for the Eskimos. He should have been starting last week but their coach is a moron and didn't let their starting QB (Mike Reilly) play a week after receiving a concussion. Crompton came in later in the game and looked decent, how was he in college I know he was a Tennessee boy and there for you should know him
