Jerod Mayo had surgery to repair a torn pectoral today. Could be it for him this year. If thats the case this will be huge loss. Wilfork and Mayo are our 2 best players on defense, and having both out would be huge. We still have a really good LB core with Hightower and Spikes as solid starters, and Fletcher and Collins as solid depth players.

Another possibility would be to move Ninkovich back to OLB. Jake Bequette would probably get the start at DE that way Michael Buccanhan could continue to be a sub rusher.
Or we could see even more 3-4 looks with Hightower and Spikes inside and Ninkovich and Buccanahan on the edge and Chandler Jones, Joe Vellano and Tommy Kelly inside.
Either way most of this season we have remained in our 4-2 sub package, which takes Spikes off the field. Spikes is horrible in coverage, so Fletcher or Collins would have to take Mayo's spot in this package. Fletcher was a really good sub lb 2 years ago before he tore his acl. He still looks pretty good in the really limited amount of snaps we have seen him in this year.

Sounds like BB is all pissed about the media hearing about these injuries? Why is he so damn arrogant? Chip Kelly is the same way, who cares if injuries are reported? Teams have to report who practices any way...

Teams have to report who practices any way... Well he has giving the same exact answer about everyday Gronk since September 25th. Typically Belichick places every minor thing on the injury report just to mess with the NFL policy for injury reports. There is some competitive advantage to disclosing as little injury information as possible. If you can avoid disclosing information and it gives you even a really small advantage then coach's will choose not to disclose the information.

Big blow to the D... they improved immensely but no way they stay this good without Wilfork AND Mayo I think the pass defense will be fine. The run defense should be affected by this. Wilfork was having a down year, so I think that loss will hurt less than most people expected. Mayo was having one of his best years and that could deffently hurt. Belichick has always been great at coming up with unconventional schemes with limited players. LB is probably our 2nd deepest group behind RB. This is a contract year for Brandon Spikes and he will have more chances to prove his worth. He has been great in run defense, but just awful in pass coverage.

Dan Connolly returned to practice today after suffering a concussion on Sunday. Talib, Kelly, Amendola, and Washington remained out and have not practiced this week. It wouldnt shock me if none of them play on Sunday. Typically if you dont practice until Friday you dont play in the game. The one exception to that is Sebastian Vollmer against Atlanta.
