The trade of Alex Smith from the 49ers to the Chiefs shakes up the draft quite a bit. This mock is also my first post-NFL combine.
Quick notes:
-The Raiders pick of Geno Smith at #3 is a certainty now. Oakland is now the only team in the division without a good QB, and they need one to compete in a weak division.
-The wide receiver class is much stronger than last years'. I could see five of them going in the first round.
-Kansas City won't have a second round pick, which increases the chance that they could trade the first pick, or select someone other than Luke Joeckel.
Stock up: Tavon Austin, WR. E.J. Manuel, QB. Tyler Eiffert, TE. Johnathon Cooper, OG. Kevin Minter, ILB. Margus Hunt, DE. Tyrann Mathieu, CB. Dee Milliner, CB. Knile Davis, RB
Stock down: Manti T'eo, ILB. Chance Warmack, OG. Mike Glennon, QB. Dion Jordan, DE. Zach Ertz, TE. Damontre Moore, DE. Johnathon Banks, CB
I'm only printing up reasoning for certain picks here. If you want my thoughts on a player selected, check here: nflfanforums.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=nfldraft&thread=1571&page=1
1. Kansas City Chiefs. Luke Joeckel, LT, Texas A&M. odds: 75%
2. Jacksonville Jaguars. Bjorn Verner, DE, FSU 60%
Werner flies up Jacksonville's board because of the concerns to Lotulelei's heart.
3. Oakland Raiders. Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia. odds 95%
4. Philadelphia Eagles. Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama. odds 65%
5. Detroit Lions. Ezekial Ansah, DE, BYU. odds: unknown.
If milliner is gone, then Detroit needs a Dlineman to replace Kyle Vanden Bosch. Trouble is, there are so many equally talented prospects, that it is very tough to predict.
6. Cleveland Browns. Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah. odds unknown.
I have Star falling from the second pick because of his unknown heart condition. We just have to see how that plays out.
7. Arizona Cardinals. Matt Barkley, QB, USC. 50%.
The odds here depend on how Matt throws at his pro day. I think the Cardinals will take him if he impresses there, and if not, they will take either Eric Fisher or Lane Johnson.
8. Buffalo Bills. Cordarelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee, 90%.
9. New York Jets. Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia, 33%.
10. Tennessee Titans. Jarvis Jones, DE, Georgia. unknown.
The Titans are most likely to take Warmack, but the combine suggests that they can get an elite guard in round two. So they gamble on Jones here. The unknown odds are because of Jones' health.
11. San Diego Chargers. Eric Fisher, LT, Central Michigan. odds 100%
12. Miami Dolphins. Sharrif Floyd, DT, Florida. odds 90%
13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Lane Johnson, T, Oklahoma. Odds 85%
14. Carolina Panthers. Chance Warmack, G, Alabama Odds 70%
15. New Orleans Saints. Dion Jordan, DE/OLB, Oregon. Odds 90%
16. St. Louis Rams. Johnathon Cooper, OG, UNC, Odds 90%.
17. Pittsburgh Steelers. Kenny Vaccaro, S, Texas. Odds 50%
The Steelers really want a linebacker, too bad none of them can stop from imploding.
18. Dallas Cowboys. Sheldon Richardson, DT, Mizzou. Odds 100%
19. Colts via Giants: Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&M. odds unknown. The colts trade up for Moore after losing freeney. Even with a terrible combine, Moore could be an elite replacement the colts need. They only need to trade up 5 spots for him. They would lose a third round selection.
20. Chicago Bears. Keenan Allen, WR, Cal. Odds 90%
21. Cincinnati Bengals. Barkevious Mingo, DE, LSU. Odds 80%.
22. St. Louis Rams. Tyler Eiffert, TE, Notre Dame. Odds 100%
23. Minnesota Vikings. Marquise Goodwin, WR, Texas. Odds 50%
24. New York Giants (via colts). Manti Te'o, ILB, Notre Dame 100%.
25. Seattle Seahawks. DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson 90%
26. Green Bay Packers. Margus Hunt, DE, SMU. Odds 100%
27. Houston Texans. Kevin Minter, ILB, LSU. Odds 50%
28. Denver Broncos. Xavier Rhodes, CB, FSU. Odds 100%
29. Jaguars (via Pats). Tyler Wilson, QB, Arkansas. Odds 90%
Jags get a franchise QB, the pats get an early second, and a 4th round pick.
30. Atlanta Falcons, Alec Ogletree, LB, Georgia. Odds unknown.
31. San Fransisco 49ers. Jesse Williams, NT, Alabama Odds 75%
32. Baltimore Ravens. Matt Elam, SS, Florida. Odds 50%.
ROUND 2 still to come.
