I sense a little frustration right now, Panther. Last year you were praising Rivera and Chud for their great work.
If you wanna blame someone, blame Cam's poor year. The team relies on him to open up the run game, and he is not doing that.
No Panther fan that I talked to after last year praised Rivera. Chud, on the other hand, everyone... including me... was ecstatic over what he did for our offense, and rightfully so.
This year, he's not having that much success and seems clueless as to what to do when Plan A fails. Once the option-runs start going nowhere, he gets desperate and goes straight to the deep pass plays. And if that fails, well... you can just stick a fork in it because we're going to lose.
Cam can be blamed for the poor play, as well. What I'm seeing from him right now is he MENTALLY doesn't have what it takes yet to be a starter. The reason I say this is b/c his confidence gets affected TOO easily. If he plays poorly early in the game, it affects him tremendously, and when that happens, his throws become erratic and he starts second guessing his decision making which leads to wrong reads, interceptions, and horrible accuracy. The 4th and goal pass with 3:40 left to play against the Seahawks is a prime example. Hartsock open in the endzone, he second guesses his decision to throw at the last second, and the ball comes out of his hand late and hits the ground 2 yards in front of Hartsock.
I'm sure we'll end up with a top ten pick next draft, but despite that, I am willing to give Cam and the coaching staff one more year. If things don't improve next season, then I think it would be enough to say it's time for the coaching staff to go and not resign Cam after his rookie contract is up. I just don't want to see what happened to the Titans with Vince Young happen to the Panthers with Cam.
