"On Dec. 26, Notre Dame coaches were informed by Manti Te’o and his parents that Manti had been the victim of what appears to be a hoax in which someone using the fictitious name Lennay Kekua apparently ingratiated herself with Manti and then conspired with others to lead him to believe she had tragically died of leukemia. The University immediately initiated an investigation to assist Manti and his family in discovering the motive for and nature of this hoax. While the proper authorities will continue to investigate this troubling matter, this appears to be, at a minimum, a sad and very cruel deception to entertain its perpetrators" Does this really sound plausible to you? How does Te'o have a GF that he has never met?

ESPN is reporting the story as a hoax against Manti Te'o, insinuating that he is a victim in all of this as well. She was a girl he met online apparently and was made up by Tuiasosopo (Te'o's friend). Not really sure what to believe now. lol.. You'd know what to believe if you would just read the article!! Not sure why you won't. I read the article. The article claims Te'o was in on the deception, but new evidence is saying he was deceived as well. Like I said, it is hard to know what to believe. Whether he was involved or not is a gray area and no proof either way has been presented. The only "evidence" against Te'o is that a friend of Tuiasopopo says he is "80% sure" that he was involved.

Yeah apparently someone met Te'o then hoaxed him with a girl under a false name? What I do not get is how this girl "Reba" and her picture got involved, and why the athlete didn't say something then about it not being her.
I'm starting to wonder if he didn't invent some girlfriend to hide something else, either his low self confiedence and inability to find a GF or if he's harboring other feelings that he felt would wreck his life, and it all snowballed out of his control.
But even more then that, I'm wondering why this is such a big deal right now... I understand what it means for him, Notre Dame and SI, but seriously why the sudden boom in interest just now? How many people read deadspin exactly? and how did the AP get involved so fast?

Gene Wojo said when he asked Manti if ESPN could contact the family of his internet lover, Manti said that the family has expressed their wishes that they be left alone. So he obviously lied about that.
This is clearly a cover up. ND and Manti are both full of shit.

What about the fake car crash then? Sure seems like evidence to me. "Nor is there any report of a severe auto accident involving a Lennay Kekua. Background checks turn up nothing. The Stanford registrar's office has no record that a Lennay Kekua ever enrolled. There is no record of her birth in the news. Outside of a few Twitter and Instagram accounts, there's no online evidence that Lennay Kekua ever existed."

See how the news media can easily manipulate the news? And look how many people were manipulated.

My theory: Someone in the Te'o camp is the puppet master behind this whole ordeal and engineered this situation to get Te'o's name out there and as a result - raise his draft stock.
Who knows what to expect at this point. Maybe Manti Te'o is Kaiser Soze?

wow, i just lost a shitload of respect for this guy. i had a big mancrush on this guy, hoping that the bengals would get him in the draft.
now i dont even want him anymore. however since hes a red flag player, he just went up now on the bengals draftboard because we love troublemakers
