Ok, I fucking hate this signing. I do not like 3-4 defenses. It better stay 4-3........ I am pissed.

One thing that I do like is this defense is just gonna get nastier. But if it switches to 3-4.... It will ruin my day.

What's wrong with a 3-4 except for defense wasn't your problem last year so switching wouldn't make sense?
Fisher is a 4-3 coach, so I would think he would stick with the 4-3 but if you do switch I would think the transition would be to blame rather than the scheme itself.

Remember his dad's defenses used 4-3, so he would have some background within it.
The Bears and Eagles (Buddy Ryan's defenses way back when) were 4-3 based, though with their different looks they gave the offenses they faced they did use variations of it.

I welcome the decision to hire him. From what I know he's coached both the 3-4, (Browns & Cowboys), and the 4-3, (Oakland). He's also spent time as a DB and LB coach in the NFL and a DL coach in college. He's worked with a variety of experienced NFL coaches and should bring plenty of skills to the Rams. He's a coach not a system coach, (until he proves me wrong). He seems to be a good motivator and organiser. I don't remember the Cowboys defense falling apart despite their injuries.

And now they have already parted ways. The reports said that the reason for the Rams parting with Rob Ryan so fast was because of the schemes. My bet is he wanted to run the 3-4, while Fisher wanted to keep it 4-3. This is Jeff Fisher's defense.

He was a good candidate for the job...but there are plenty of others. I would have been disappointed if they hadn't considered him. I've posted about this at NFL.com and ESPN. He was always going to have to conform to the current scheme. Sure, he would have been allowed to run some hybrid stuff to confuse opponents but our personnel are geared to a 4-3. Our big money players, Long & Laurinaitis, aren't suited to a 3-4 scheme. I don't know who the other candidates might be but I hope Dick Jauron & Jim Tomsula are among them.

Ryan is a good coach. I'm not convinced that Spagnuolo was a good coach. I suspect he was an exceptional DL coach and pass rush talent spotter. I don't believe Ryan's departure from the Rams was due to differences over a 4-3 or 3-4 scheme. If there were such differences he wouldn't have been picked/given a 2nd interview. More likely there were differences over coverage packages and the type of LBs that will be added. The Rams stayed away from press man-to-man schemes in 2012and were prepared to concede dump-offs. Ryan's likely agenda was to be more aggressive on 1st & 2nd down and cautious on 3rd down. The Saints would be advised to interview Ryan. If he doesn't fit their aspirations they can look elsewhere.
