FEAR THE BEAST: The Heroic Return of Lord Matthews. With SIX sacks recorded thru two games, Matthews has already tied his 2011 total. Attention all you QBs standing behind a marginal left tackle--beware your blind side.
WATCH WILY WOODSON: Although Woodson officially moved to SS, against CHI he mostly played his regular position shut-down CB. His job was to blanket Marshall--and welcome him to the harsh reality of the brutal winters in the NFC North. (Marshall had ZERO catches thru three quarters.)
I(NT) OF THE TREMON TIGER: Tremon Williams is quickly becoming the elite CB that Al Harris wished he was (and GB knew he WAS NOT). Harris was pretty good at defensive bump/run coverage--the style that disrupts a WR route and takes them out of a timed play. Williams, on the other hand, plays the hybrid offensive-defense. He focuses on the QB and runs the route with the WR. If the ball is even a little off, Williams (always looking to be the WR) usually comes out head (v CHI-2 INTs). You have to think Woodson (career 55 INTs)--the mentor--had something to do with encouraging the young man's style. (He also reminds me of an eager young safety-turned-ball-hog by the name of Darren Sharper.)
ROOKIES/NO-NAMES: The Packers drafted a WHOLE HEAP of defensive players. None have particularly stood out, but as a group they all haven't yet really failed (so, I guess, that's good.) Knowing Ted really likes to get his rookies raw and "indoctrinate" them into the GB-way, I'm anticipating a few to really step up yet this season. Who that will be--remains to be seen...

I figured the Packers D would do better than last year, but they surprised me last night.
You'll love Jerel Worthy at 3-4 DE (Rookie). Probably one of the best run stuffers in the draft.

At this pace Matthews could notch 20 sacks, he'll face weak and average left tackles along the way, his hardest matchup might be against Duane Brown and Michael Roos, the rest is easy for him

So far the most impressive rookie is Jerron McMillian. MD Jennings was getting all the attention in the offseason and training camp but couldnt deliver in the preseason or in week 1. McMillian took his spot as nickel safety in week 2 and looked right at home. No communication issues, no glaring problems in the secondary like in week 1 (keeping Jarrett Bush on the sidelines didnt hurt either lol)
