www.nytimes.com/2013/09/27/sports/ncaafootball/ea-sports-wont-make-college-video-game-in-2014.html?_r=0College football and baseball players whos images or likenesses are used in NCAA football and NCAA Basketball video games in the future will receive compensation, and the suit awarded 77% of the 40 million dollars to various players defrauded in the past. These players' images were used without their consent in the games, and professional athletes are compensated for the right (via unions such as NFLPA). This marks the first time that NCAA players are getting compensated for their athletic performance and it could be a breakthrough towards a non-amateur NCAA model. It also means that we will have an NCAA Football '15 game, or at least they will return in 2016 depending on how far behind they fell in the dev cycle.

The suit was the reason they cancelled the games. They wouldn't have settled for any other reason but to bring the games back.
