I worked at Legoland California for years. We had a guy who was a lead man for the young kids who load you on the rides. There was a group of black people going thru the park, I mean like a big family of maybe twenty. They all rode on the "Dragon" roller coaster, and came out of the tunnel. This kid lead man says "Where did all these black people come from?".
Someone complained. He was fired. He sued. He had his freedom of speech and Legoland had their right to dismiss you for NO reason. (we signed that agreement upon hire). He lost his suet. So to me the bottom line is. Yes you have freedom of speech, BUT that does not mean there is no consiquences.
If you own a business and your representative shames you (In your opinion) and may cost you money, you do what you do as a business owner. I think A&E may regret their decision this time.
Won't affect me, I never saw the show.

His right to free speech wasn't violated. He is allowed to say whatever he wants and the government cannot persecute him for that, but that does not mean he can say whatever he wants without any repercussions elsewhere. You are within your constitutional rights to say you hate black people, but doing so would cause many other social issues in your life. The right to free speech and saying whatever you want with zero consequence are two very different things. His job is a very public one and his employers have every right to break affiliation with him if he is not upholding a public image that they would like. Simply giving an opinion can be insulting or degrading. Quoting the bible can be insulting or degrading to people who don't believe it. It's not a book of fact or truth for every person on earth, only a certain percentage. So for him to openly say that homosexuality is a sin and on par with adultery and beastiality and such is very offensive to many people. Not to mention the fact that he also said he thinks black people were happier prior to the civil rights bill being passed. Not sure why hat hasn't been talked about more. The fact is that he is a biggot and A&E has every right to break away from that image if they so choose.

I think me and saska are saying the same thing. Freedom of speech doesn't mean there are no repercussions. If my employee told my gay client (which I have a few) she was a sinner and such. I would let him go. Even if I agreed with him or not. It's business. I don't talk politics, religion, abortion, or anything related with my customers. EVER.
In this case the media is making so much of it and social media people are going nuts on it, that they all will prosper. Big Time.

Allow me to clarify. A&E can do whatever they want with the people or the shows on their network. I just think they were incredibly stupid to do what they did. They asked him in an interview away from the show about sin (I do not know the exact question), and he answered. What did they expect? Were they trying to get him off the show? Again, they can do whatever they want. It's their network. But Duck Dynasty is the #1 show on television (supposedly), and in doing this, they will probably lose it, likely their biggest source of income. And it frustrated me that they said "vile and extreme stereotypes" and "public disdain" for the LGBT community". Maybe they were looking for an excuse to get Duck Dynasty off of their network without kicking them off? I dunno.

I am already sick of hearing about this crap.
Anyway...my two cents is...This is a PC issue. Its blown way out of proportion by the media as always to get everyone's panties in a wad. Thats it. I dont agree with ALL parties involved here because they are all nut cases!
Let me tell you something about the show and A&E. The producers of the show was bleeping out words that were not curse words. This is how deceptive the world around you is these days.
Do I agree with what Phil said? YES,,...But I dont agree with how and what he said.
To tell ya the truth..He should have just said, Im a christian and I have certain beliefs. Thats IT.
Not....I like vaginas and I dont like anus. And as far as sin goes...One sin is not greater than another,Phil.
This whole thing is ridiculous.
And as far as A&E SUSPENDING him....They have a right to do that. Any place you work these days have a right to fire you for NO REASON! Times have changed...yes indeed.

www.businessinsider.com/when-you-defend-phil-robertson-heres-what-youre-really-defending-2013-12It's not that people disagree per say, although the vast majority of the country (his viewers) do. It's that the things he said in the GQ interview, much of which people haven't read or seen because it requires a subscription to a men's magazine (and a great one by the way), is that he is basically a hateful bigot who refuses to believe that anyone unlike himself is going to hell and should just be killed know to save the time. The quotes from his mouth are too scathing. No parent company will let him stick around after that. There's no debate here. He's allowed to speak his mind, but his words can have repercussions on him. He's not going to jail, he's just being taken off TV. If you say you "agree with him, but not how he said it", be careful what you're agreeing to. Most people don't really know what he said.

"I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field.... They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues."

This has nothing to do with his right to his opinion. It has to do with A&E was going to lose all that dynasty money.
