So far the Ravens have suffered a few key injuries on D. Reports Courtesy of CBS Sports.
Ravens DB Jimmy Smith, who is competing for a starting spot in the backfield in training camp with Cary Williams, left practice Thursday grabbing at his back, according to NFL.com. The extent of the injury is not yet known.
The Carroll County Times reports that Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta did break his hand, tests confirmed, and had surgery Tuesday to repair the damage. Pitta is expected to be sidelined until the Ravens’ regular-season opener Sept. 10 against the Bengals. Although Ed Dickson is the starting tight end and caught 54 passes for 528 yards and five touchdowns last season, Pitta played in every game and caught a career-high 40 passes for 505 yards and three touchdowns
Ravens outside linebacker Terrell Suggs told ESPN Friday he's planning to play this season. Rehab has been going well and promised to make an impact for the Ravens this season. "I like the progress that I'm making," Suggs said. "I came out of the boot last week. So I'm just walking right now, doing muscle strengthening, trying to get the muscle back strong. And I like where I'm at right now, loving the process. ... Y'all will see me play this year."
Haloti Nagta also had a minor hamstring injury but was held out as a precaution more then anything else.
The Carroll County Times reports that Ravens running back Bernard Pierce injured his hamstring during Tuesday's practice. Pierce is competing to be the No. 2 running back for Baltimore behind starter Ray Rice. (Updated 07/31/2012)
Derrick Mason retired after a long successful career in the black and purple.
Ed Reed has resigned and says he wishes to play for a few more years, which is a good and a bad thing for the ravens as they will need to move on eventually and when he stops preforming it will be hard to cut ties with him as he is a legend for the Ravens.
Ray Rice ended his hold out which will be one of the biggest boosts the Ravens will receive all year.
