On October 25, 1905, the first football match took place between the teams of the Naval Academy in Annapolis and the Maryland Agricultural College. The Navy officials won 17-0. Since then, the rivals have played twenty-one games among themselves, and the rivals of the neighbors (the colleges are only thirty miles apart) were named the Crab Bowl Classic. The winner of the match gets a trophy: naturally, in the form of a bowl of crabs.
Pat Swilling, best known for playing for the New Orleans Saints, 1991 Defensive Player of the Year and College Football Hall of Famer.
Patrick Travis Swilling was born on October 25, 1964 in Toccoa, Georgia. After graduation, he studied and played for the Georgia Tech team, establishing himself as one of the best defenders in college football history. In the 1985 season, Pat made seven sacks against North Carolina, setting an NCAA record. After playing four seasons for the Yellow Jackets, he left the team as the leader in terms of career sacks and tackles with lost yards. In 2009, Swilling was named to the College Football Hall of Fame.
In the 1986 draft, he was picked in the third round by the New Orleans Saints. In the early 1990s, the team's linebacker corps, the famous Dome Patrol, was one of the strongest in the NFL, with Swilling leading the way. Pat had 17 sacks in the 1991 season and was named NFL Defender of the Year. Twice in a row he was included in the first All-Pro team. In 1993 he was traded to Detroit, where he spent two seasons. For another three years, with a break, Swilling played for Oakland. During his career, he played 185 matches in the regular season, making 107.5 sacks. He was a Pro Bowl member five times. Only the playoffs did not obey him: Pat lost all six of his games by elimination. In 2000, he was inducted into the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame alongside his Patrol partner Vaughn Johnson.
From 2001 to 2004, Swilling served on the transportation and retirement committees in Louisiana. Later he went into real estate business.
