Positions were assigned randomly, but I like the challenge. Besides, this is his first time playing. He should get a slight handicap. edit: He's also split straight down the middle of the map, meaning he's defending on all sides. Both of our positions have a rear flank that we don't need to defend. He has to defend pretty much everywhere, so he has more troops to do it. Not to tell him how to play his game but France has a rear flank... Not one that he'll ever get to

101mitch some key clarifications. I noticed your English moves failed to execute. I don't know if maybe you've already figured out why, but here's what went wrong: First, you tried to move your fleet in Edinburgh to Norway. That move is illegal because there is a sea zone (the north sea) in between England and Norway. The key thing to understand is that your fleet stars on the dock in England, not in the water already. Your move (if you want to go to Norway, which is a good plan) is to move from Edinburgh to the North Sea. You do this by clicking on Edinburgh, then clicking move, and then clicking the North Sea. The same goes for your fleet in London. You tired to send it to Brest, France. That's illegal. You need to send it to the English channel first if you want to go there. Again, click London, then click move, then click english channel. The third move is also wrong, but for a different reason. That piece is a land army, so it cannot go in the water at all. Don't feel too bad, I tried to do the exact same thing in Turkey but I got a shot to fix my mistake. What you did was click Liverpool, support, and then London. This is illegal because land armies cannot support fleets IF the fleet is going into a sea zone. If the fleet is attacking a coastal land country, and if the army also borders that country (it doesn't in this case), then an army can support a fleet. With Germany, you tried to move all the way from Munich to Holland. This doesn't work because Ruhr is in the way. You need to move to ruhr first, then to holland the following turn. Similarly, you tried to go from Berlin to Sweden. This is illegal for two reasons. First, land armies can't go across water. Second, that's two spaces away. Even if Berlin had a fleet, you would need to move to the Baltic Sea first. Your third German move was legal. In Austria, you made two legal moves (Budapest to Romania, and Trieste to Albania) and one illegal move. You tried to support my army in Constantinople attack Morkim's capital in Moscow. That doesn't work for multiple reasons. You had no troops next to my army in Constantinople, and my Constantinople army wasn't attacking Moscow, and even if I wanted to do that, it would be impossible because Moscow is halfway across the map from my army. Here's the link that shows all the moves that were made in the first round. It's really helpful, because it also shows the moves Morkim and I made. Remember, I'm France/Turkey, and he's Italy/Russia. www.playdiplomacy.com/game_history.php?game_id=109781&phase=O&gdate=0Let me know what questions you still have.

I also thought it would be good to explain how supports work in general. To support, you need three things.
1. a country (or sea zone) that you want to attack, that is bordered by two of your units (armies or fleets are okay, but only if both are eligible to attack)
2. An army that you are moving into the country I specify in part 1.
3. An adjacent (to both) fleet or army that will click support, then click the country you used in part two.
What this does is gives your army a force of 2 instead of its usual force of 1. That means that if you legally execute a "support" move, you'll beat an opposing unit who's just sitting there holding or trying to move into the same country you're attacking.

The very last point the guy made in the video is really important for strategy, since we are now in the fall.
It's really wise to leave your supply centers empty going from fall to spring (which we are about to do). This is true unless you either haven't conquered any new centers or lost centers. This is because building happens next, and you can ONLY build in your original 3 spots.
If all your spots are full and you earned a city, then tough shit, you can't build. That would be really bad. It's like throwing away free stuff.
