Before I post, Bengal I copy pasted your thread and basically put my stuff in so it'd be easier. Hope you don't mind
FINAL SCORE:
24 49
TOP 5 PLAYERS:
5. WR Javontee Herndon - 3 REC, 88 yards, TD. Looking at tonight it may be Hamilton #1, Mitchell #2, and Herndon #3. I expected McKay to be #2 but he had only 1 catch. Doesn't mean he won't be the #2 or #3 though. Herndon caught was thrown to him. I hope McKay locks up the #2 or #3 WR though because of his height at 6'6". it's tough for corners to cover that. I hope he pans out.
4. PR Nate Holmes - 4 returns, 12 yards. Yeah this looks bad, but he had a TD called back. He is the new PR now that Adams is gone. He was hit right after he caught the punt, went down to all fours but stayed on his feet and took it all the way for a TD. They reviewed it and his elbow hit the ground. But it showed me what he can do. And I feel better about losing Adams after seeing that.
3. WR Brandon Mitchell- 4 REC, 124 yards. He looked ok in his first game as a WR. He spent 2 years as a backup QB and converted to a WR this offseason. He made a really nice leaping grab which showed me he has good hands. I like what I saw from him. Seeing this, I'm not very worried about losing Wright, Childs, and Adams. He DID have a drop though (on a beautiful throw by Wilson) that lost him a TD or a 50 yard reception at least (dropped it when he was hit), but he came back with a 47 yard reception to the 5 yard line. He's got good size, decent speed, and pretty good hands. I just have to hope he won't drop passes when he gets hit.
2. TE Chris Gragg - 8 REC, 127 yards, 2 TDs. He looked really good tonight. I was impressed. The only bad thing was a lost fumble.
1. QB Tyler Wilson - 19-27, 369 yards, 3TDs. He looked crazy good tonight... Every throw but 2 were right on the money..of his 8 incompletions, 2-3 were drops, 2 were throw aways, 2 were balls that weren't thrown good enough to be caught, and I can't remember the other 1-2. This was the best I have ever seen Tyler Wilson throw the ball. The best throw I saw was a throw about 40-50 yards down the field, in between 2 defenders, RIGHT in the hands of Brandon Mitchell in stride (the ball was dropped when he was hit). I just LOVED what I saw from him today. I know it was against Jacksonville State, but every throw was perfect.
No one on the defense made my list.
THINGS I HATED:
1. Defense... - Arkansas allowed 21 first half points to Jacksonville State. That's more than Bama allowed in a whole game against Michigan...Allowed 322 yards and only forced 1 turnover. I just have to hope that they were completely overlooking them and have only been preparing for Bama. Because we went down 14-7 early, then dominated for the rest of the game, but still...we shouldn't be giving up that kind of yardage and points to a nobody. I'm worried about our defense.
2. 4 fumbles (3 lost), -2 turnover differential - We had 4 fumbles...(Tyler Wilson, Ronny Wingo Jr, Chris Gragg, can't remember the 4th) Playing Jacksonville St. and were -2 in turnover differential..that's a problem..Just wait till we play Bama...if we're down 2 in turnovers against them, I can't imagine what it would be like against Bama..
3. Cobi Hamilton injured - I don't know the extent of the injury, but I have to pray it isn't serious. He was on the sideline and he looked fine but I'm still worried.
4. Mekale McKay held to 1 catch 8 yards - This is disappointing..he's 6'6" and I was looking forward to see how he would do. A 6'6" WR has gotta be tough to cover..I really hope he does well and turns out to be a great WR.
Summary:
The offense looked great. Breeding only came out twice to punt. It was against Jacksonville State so it's nothing to get excited about. The defense looked really bad in the first half..21 points allowed. They came around in the second half only allowing a FG..but they were a bad throw away from them scoring a TD in the 4th quarter. Knile Davis only had 70 yards and 1 TD on 18 carries, averaging 3.9 YPC..against Jacksonville State?? That's bad..(-11 on one carry (shouldve been -3 from forward progress..) and had 0 on back to back carries at the goal line. no excuse though) Davis should do better against a DII defense..But he and Wilson were pulled after 3 quarters. If we're going to have a chance against Bama, Knile Davis needs to get it together, Cobi Hamilton needs to be healthy, and that defense has to improve..But as I said they've probably been preparing for Bama this offseason and didn't even worry about JSU knowing they'd beat them pretty good. So they started out bad but they adjusted. Even if that is the case it's bad to allow over 300 yards and 24 points (21 first half) against a DII school..no excuse for that. But our offense will be tougher to handle than any other Bama will play this year..Wilson is the 2nd best QB, Knile Davis top 3 RB, and Wilson's top 4 targets (if McKay is one of them) are 6'3" or taller..defenses won't be able to stop that AND Knile Davis.
