Federal court docket notes a settlement conference was held in Brady-NFL yesterday. There were no other comments about it in the docket.
The general feeling is that Berman will rule on the 31st if there is no settlement(and there is no indication one is coming anytime soon).

The return of Trey Flowers is really good news for this football team. We have a lot of versatile pieces up front. Chandler Jones will likely see a decent amount of time as an interior rusher in passing situations and I am pretty sure Nincovich will not lead the league in snaps by a defensive linemen next season. Flowers should get a lot of chances as a pass rusher.
The losses in the secondary are not going to be as big as a deal as some are stating. Tarell Brown is different style CB than Browner, but just as good as a player. Logan Ryan will easily replace Arrington's production. While Malcolm Butler is obviously not Revis, he is still going to be a very good CB with a lot of potential. And the safeties are exactly the same with the addition of Jordan Richards. So while there is no designated shutdown CB, there is still an above average secondary with one of the best safeties in the league.
The improvement to the front 7 is going to be a big deal. Last year we essentially had two consistent edge rushers in Chandler Jones and Rob Nincovich. When Jones got hurt we were forced to trade for Akeem Ayers, who did an excellent job filling in for Jones, but didn't offer much after Jones returned. This year we have Jabaal Sheard, who can excel and DE or OLB and who is just as good a run defender as a pass rusher and Trey Flowers who has a very similar style to Sheard, just a little raw.
Malcolm Brown will easily replace Wilfork's production last year, if not offer an improvement. While Wilfork was still a good run defender last year, he didnt offer much in terms of pass rush and had clearly lost a step. Dominique Easley basically used last year as a redshirt year. He has looked really good during camp and preseason, and offers an explosive interior pass rush. Sealver Siliga is by far the most overlooked player on this team. He has been by far our best DT over the last two seasons. He will be looking at a nice size contract this offseason, if he plays at a similar level.
From an offensive standpoint I expect to see a huge variety of packages this season, even more so than in the past. Chandler and Gronkowski can be a deadly combination in both the running game and the passing game. I expect to see a lot of 2 TE looks as we get closer to the redzone.
We have seen a decent amount of 2 RB looks so far during the preseason. I expected this was going to be a heavily used package last year with Vereen and White, but we never really saw it. I would be really surprised if we don't see it used extensively this year.
The potential for 4 WR packages is there with LaFell, Edelman, Wayne, and Amendola. However unless you are willing to go empty backfield you take your best player off the field(Gronkowski). So most likely this will be a limited package.
Same thing with the 3 WR, 2 TE sets. I see it being used as a limited package, just because there is a big advantage to having a RB in the backfield for pass protection if needed, although a TE can be utilized in that way.
Probably the most used packages will be the 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB and the 2 WR, 2 TE, 1 RB sets. We will also see some 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 FB, 1 RB sets, which was an effective package last season.

Pats have traded a 2017 7th round pick to Detroit for OT Mike Williams.

Mike Williams is an interesting prospect. He is a TE converted to OT. A very good run blocker who could end up being heavily utilized as a 6th tackle in packages this season. He could push Hooman off this roster.

And Williams switched his number from 74 to 85, which at the very least says he will be working mainly with the TE's.

Josh Boyce not seen at practice today. No known injuries so my bet is he was finally released.

Pats release Cameron Gordon. The roster is at 87 now, but I do not expect any spots to be filled. More about giving some guys an opportunity to find a team before cut downs officially happen. At this point the coaches typically know who is going to be part of the 53 and the only thing that changes are any potential injuries.

I expect Hightower and Mayo will play tonight. Also means there is no doubt they will be ready for opening night. Gronk probably gets a little bit of playing time as well.
I know most people view the 3rd preseason game as a dress rehearsal, but I don't think we will see that tonight. I am sure starters will get a little more playing time than the first two games, but the chances they play into the 3rd quarter is very low.
TE/OT Mike Williams is expected to play tonight and get an extensive amount of snaps at TE. Should be interesting to watch a 303 pound TE run routes.
My gut feeling is that Reggie Wayne will play tonight in limited action.
Boyce was not officially released, but he hasn't been seen at practice since Tuesday and is not injured.
