I got into a discussion with my older brother last night about this issue. While we both agree that violent rioting is wrong, he is more of the type to blame the blacks for being criminals and to say that the police should be justified in whatever actions they take because they put their lives on the line. We've had that discussion enough here, so I won't try getting into that again. What my brother did say that caught me off guard is that Freddie Gray had spinal surgery a week before this arrest, which is why his spine was so damaged. I didn't know how to respond to that (online discussions are so much better because you can fact check before responding). But I have since looked it up and I just want to clarify for anyone who actually believes in Gray's pre-existing injuries, that is a completely bogus claim with no evidence supporting it that has been disproven by multiple sources ( link). I don't think violent rioting is the right way to deal with any situation, but I also understand that the people there feel helpless and want to do something. Typically what happens is a group of people get together to protest without the intent of violence, but then a group or individual creates a spark that ignites the collective fear and frustration of the group. Violent protesting does nothing but escalate a bad situation.

Violent protesting does nothing but escalate a bad situation. This wasn't violent protesting. It was looting. People went out with the intent to destroy property and steal things. Don't get me wrong, I'm actually supportive of the riots. I just think people should call a spade a spade. Actual protests largely vanished shortly after Gray's funeral once the rioting/looting started. Thank you for the info on pre-existing injuries. I hadn't heard of this, but I'm glad to be made aware of the facts/controversy.

I was just fixing to say that the spinal surgery was a lie. It came from Fox News.
Im all for protesting. Thats what they should be doing. But burning shit, cutting fire hoses, throwing trash cans, stealing toilet paper and rubbers, shoes and Tv's and jumping up and down on cop cars is just .....in the words of Juggs.......LOONY.

Cop attacks unarmed black teens, threatens to shoot and arrest them for not doing as he says.
Obvious notes from watching this twice:
- At no point is there any violence from anyone other than a police officer. Still, the cop performs a stupid roll, a takedown, and draws a gun on children. - He repeatedly threatens children who don't understand their rights with arrest and violence even though they are by all rights free to run away and not listen to his directions. - The officer repeatedly uses vulgar language in front of children, and borderline sexually harasses an underage girl and her friends. If a civilian did the things he did, that person would be arrested for sexual assault. - The officer repeatedly bypasses all the non-black kids to chase down two black teenagers and force them onto the ground. The establishing shots and the interrogation sequences show that every white person on the scene is presumed innocent by the police officer and allowed to leave, and most of the black people there are victimized. -From reading other coverage of this event besides the video, it's clear that these kids were trespassing and the party did need to be broken up. I'm just airing that dirty laundry so that no one who sees this will attempt to defend this officer by saying that a girl deserves to be assaulted, three people deserved to be wrongly arrested, and a large group of bystanders needed their lives threatened at gunpoint.
This officer has been given paid vacation and isn't currently looking at any legal charges. There is an internal police investigation, which is like asking your mother to decide whether or not you should go to prison.

It was a community pool. The issue is that a fight broke out and the cops came to break up the fight. That one cop was being a complete asshole and he went power crazy. He should be fired, at least. The other cops seemed to just be trying to talk to people before that one guy went on his power trip. I'm waiting for someone to trying and argue that this one isn't an example of racism though... He so obviously picks out only black people in a crowd of mostly whites. The kid who took the video even said he was able to walk around with his camera on unnoticed, while black kids were being screamed at and abused all around him. He was white, of course.

Well Brandon spike might have gotten himself in a hit and run. Might be hard to pin it on him though because they never caught him, he ditched his car in the woods so they really can't prove he was driving. They found it later but couldn't identify him as the driver.
