This is fucking atrocious.
-Officer dangerously pulls cruiser up to old man at high speed and nearly hits him. She also took a right on red early in the video. I don't know if that's legal in Seattle, but it varies place to place. Even if it's legal, you are supposed to wait for all traffic to clear the intersection before going right on red (at least where I live), but I guess the cops don't abide by the law.
-Screams at him to drop the golf club he is using as a cane to walk. She has no authority to do this (even if I am not an expert on Washington state law), and even if somehow she does, she doesn't state any authority.
-Accuses the man of obstruction of justice (he is not doing that either) and tells him he is being detained and is not free to leave, before she has arrested him. This is illegal. Until you are arrested, you have not been detained and can leave.
-When he calls her bluff that she will "call somebody", she falsely accuses him of swinging his cane at her. We can see via the dashcam that this he did not do this. She is simply lying.
-She arrests him and forces him to spend the night in jail. The judge threw out his case when he saw that the police officer clearly lied about the club swing, and generally for all the reason I just mentioned.
-This did not however clear Wingate's (the man with the cane) arrest record. Now on every job application he ever submits, he has been arrested. He also now has "a record" which could conceivably worsen a future criminal sentence. Wingate is a 70 year old homeless black veteran.
-The officer was not punished in any way by the police department which admitted no wrongdoing in the case. Badges don't come with a new set of rights.
This thread is for sharing police wrongdoing and abuse that you know of, have seen on the internet like this story, or have experienced.

Police leave woman handcuffed in a cruiser with uncuffed sex offender. He proceeded to rape her and the police were cleared of all responsibility by a corrupt judge. The 17 year old girl is now suing the police for 400K. I hope she wins but I know she'll lose since the courts always spot the pigs. edit: The evidence that led to the acquittal of the officer was an investigation headed by the police officer who was being investigated. WTF!?!?!? As well, the officer slammed a cell door on the girl and broke her tooth. Anyone who does that to a cop gets shot. Officers get off scott free.

Police illegally detain and nearly kill black, female, veteran college student by sicking dog on her DISCLAIMER: includes graphic photo of mauled young girl by police dog. -Girl was at an off-campus party when a fight broke out that she was not involved in. -She and her friends chose to leave the party because of this. -As they were leaving, police showed up (for some reason, with dogs). -A group of white girls and one black girl were seen by the cops, who picked out the only minority and pinned her while she was mauled by a dog. Photos included in the article are extremely graphic and depict life threatening wounds that will require corrective surgery at the girls expense. -The girl was illegally detained. She has the right to not answer questions and simply walk away unless she is charged or detained. She was not arrested or charged with a crime, which means that the police officers were not acting within the law. This means that in this instance, they had no more authority to pin this girl than you or I would. If I did this, I would see 10 years in prison, I could never get a job again, and I would be facing a hate crime. -As is becoming a theme, the police officer was investigated by his own department and has not been charged with any responsibility.

This is fucking horseshit, and you are presenting a comedian as if what he is saying is actually real or relevant. None of these people broke the law, weren't polite, or did any of the things that they shouldn't have been doing. Also, being impolite or doing 99% of the things that this video suggests isn't justification to be raped, arrested, killed or mauled by dogs. Linking that comedic video (which relies on a laugh track) and pretending that police abuse is not a problem in the United States is not a legitimate argument.

It sure is for more than half the shit people been rioting over lately. It doesn't matter if you've done nothing wrong. If you have ANY fucking common sense, you HAVE to fucking know that you are NOT going to win when directly refusing to comply with police orders. I don't care what color you are, it's just not gonna end well. Bada fucking-bing, bada fucking-boom!

I am white and was walking down the street one night. I grew up in a town with a huge african immigrant population (not african americans as we think of them, but recent migrants from countries like Sudan and eithopia mostly). It was dark outside (obviously, at night), and I was wearing a hoodie (it was snowing lightly) walking down the street towards a convenience store to buy some Ben n Jerry's. Americone Dream, my favorite flavor.
I am on a sidewalk.
Suddenly, I hear sirens. This happens a lot because I also live next to the dispatch of Ambulances and fire trucks in my town, but I realize this siren is much quieter than those vehicles. The red and blue blinkers confirm it, the cops are on to my plan to buy some ice cream.
The cop pulls of onto the grass. His wheels are touching the sidewalk.
"Evening, son", the cop addressed me. "Can you show me some identification please."
I was appalled. I am not driving a car. I had just been "pulled over" if that's possible, while walking down the street 1 minute from my house.
"No sir, I don't have any ID. All I have is about $10 I'm going to use to buy some ice cream at the Mobil. And I also don't see why you stopped me. Am I under arrest?"
"No, you're not under arrest. I just wanted to see some ID."
"Why?"
"Well, it's awfully late at night to be just walking outside."
It was like, 9PM on a weeknight over christmas vacation. Literally that week had been the christmas tree lighting in the town square, the same intersection that I was walking towards to go to the gas station. I've been paraphrasing the conversation up to this point, but I'll never forget the next thing I said.
"Officer I'm not aware of any law that says I don't have rights after the sun goes down. This kind of harassment is why no one in [my home town] respects you or will approve your budget."
And I promptly walked off. I can only assume this jackoff to be pulling me over to say that I "fit the description" AKA being a black male, but realized that I was white only after seeing my face from behind my gray hoodie.
I can get away with using my rights because I am white and privileged to do so.. If I weren't white, I couldn't do that and would fear just being arrested for no reason, like the black man with the cane in seattle, the black teen shot in Ferguson, the black teen strangled to death in New York, the black veteran girl mauled by dogs, or the native american girl raped inside a cop car and then assualted by the officer in prison.

Do you realize that what you just said is, factually, completely wrong? You don't have to comply with police orders! Not until arrested. None of these people were arrested or charged. None of these people were arrested. People with common sense know their rights and do stand up to people who try to abuse them. Also, I love how you, of all people, suggest that being polite to police officers is key, when your apparent mantra is that politeness and political correctness don't matter. Being a massive hypocrite is really convenient for you. I hope that someday, you or someone you love gets abused by police and you wake the fuck up and see that this is probably the biggest issue in the United States today. We're on pace to have more people killed by police this year than were killed in the September 11th attacks.
