Very good Thanks. I will look this over and add some of my thoughts. Right off the bat I see Partee. He only made about 59% of his field goals. He was a better punter but in my humble opinion does not belong on the list. I remember after a game the players were partying and I forget where we were but I was there. I think it was Hadl who was really mad. He said "What kind of game plan is that? Run three and call Partee" haha it was funny. Surprised I remember that and I didn't until I saw his name. Thanks again.

Are you basing your list on the best players or the best as a Charger? I'm think you are making some of the list as the best player even though some of their best years were with other teams. Harmon comes to mind.

As far as RB goes I would put Chuck Muncie, Dickie Post, Don Woods, James Brooks, Little train James and Gary Anderson ahead of Harmon. We have has so many great ones. I would also put John Jefferson ahead of Vincent I think.
Good list though. Speedy Duncan, man I loved that guy. He was a very good DB also.
Lots of memories.

Didn't realize how much of his value came from Punting. I switched the backup kicking duties to Rolf Benirschke

I like that. I loved Rolf.
I read I think that you like the history. Well I can only remember some of it. But I was there. At the time I did not know the difference from a cornerback to a safety. But I know who was really fun to watch.

As far as pure running back I don't disagree. But Harmon was such a great all around player. He averaged 4.9 yards per carry. His pass catching ability out of the backfield is unmatched in Chargers history. He also did some kick returning.
Harmon: 4.9 Muncie: 4.3 Post: 4.4 Woods: 4.0 Brooks: 4.8 James: 4.6 Anderson: 4.1
John Jefferson was an interesting player. Had three excellent seasons to start his career with the Chargers. Looked like a future HOFer. He left and went to the Packers and was never the same player.
Here are his numbers compared to Jackson.
Jefferson: 199 receptions, 3431 yards, 17.2 Y/R, 36 TD Jackson: 272 receptions, 4754 yards, 17.5 Y/R, 37 TD
Gotta disagree on Jefferson. Vincent Jackson was clearly better. Other receivers who I'd pick ahead of JJ are Anthony Miller (coin toss between him and Jackson), Malcom Floyd, and Don Norton

I think if you're going off of pure numbers then you're missing the boat on John Jefferson. One of the more athletic receivers out there. The trade early in '81 to G.B. make his numbers look less than Jackson, but let's look at it closer:
Jackson played 7 seasons with SD never had double digit TDs with SD, reaching 9 twice. Jefferson played 3 seasons with SD and led the league in yardage once and TDs twice, scoring double digit TDs every year
Jefferson was Pro Bowl all three seasons in SD and All-Pro twice Jackson was Pro Bowl twice (once more since) and has never been All-Pro
To compare their stats while they were both with SD, you need to look at the averages, since they didn't play for the same amount of years there. Before anyone says "yeah, but Antonio Gates was there, stealing receptions from Jackson" - I'd like to point out that Kellen Winslow (HOF) and Charlie Joiner (HOF) were both in SD at the time John Jefferson was.
Also - the Jefferson really WAS the Chargers of the late 70's. He was one of the players they were known for, and one of the reasons they were so much fun to watch. Yeah, he probably would've been able to put together a HOF career if he hadn't been traded to GB, but we'll never know.
If we're going to have a list of the best receivers to have been with SD, Vincent Jackson would be down the list. Alworth, Joiner, Garrison, Jefferson, Chandler (then maybe Miller and Jackson) would probably be the list, but also add in Winslow and Gates and that's maybe the greatest receiving corps of any franchise.
I love James Brooks, but he was more a Bengal than a Charger. I know he played in SD for a few seasons at the start of his career in SD, but after he went to Cincy he really made his career, playing 8 seasons there. BTW - one of the most underrated (and versatile) RBs of all time.

One other thing you failed to mention that may be important is Jefferson played with the greatest Charger QB of all time Dan Fouts during his prime. That may factor into the equation.
