They seriously haven't solved this yet? This has been an issue for them since before they Drafted Matthew Stafford. When are they finally going to Draft a CB in the 1st Round? They certainly need one. They just released Chris Houston (arguably their best CB over the past 5 years) due to salary cap reasons. They should realize that Rashean Mathis and Darius Slay aren't going to cut it. They need to address it in the next Draft that is for sure.

To say Darrius Slay isn't going to cut it is a very quick judge on a play with ton's of talent.
So far the word out of camp is that Slay has been shutting down Johnson as often as not in one on one situations. So we will see how he does. Mathis is old but he used to be a top CB in the league so I assume he is at least serviceable. I think they really should have went CB with their first pick in the draft, but I don't know if they are as bad off as you seem to think. They also have Cassius Vaughn, who may not be a great CB, but he is a serviceable one.

Cornerback is by far the position (by which I'm discluding special teams) with the least need to be taken in round 1. Late round corners, as well as mid round guys develop into stars all the time. Last year Tennessee had one of the best pairs in the league and we took Jason McCourty and Alterraun Verner in the 6th round and the 4th round respectively. Two years back we had those two along with Cortland Finnegan, a 7th round pick. Now we'll start either Blidi-Wreh Wilson, a 3rd rounder, or Coty Sensebuagh, a 5th rounder. Richard Sherman went in round 5. There are exceptions, but it is a viable strategy to wait on corner. Cornerbacks are all great atheltes, their play depends on their mental development at a hard position to play once they hit the NFL. It's very possible they have solved their cornerback problem already and the guys they have will develop into good players. Brandon Flowers also just hit the market, so they could sign him.

Yeah it's usually the smart way to go when handling the position, as long as the team is good at developing corners. They tend to be very expensive for such a limited role a a single CB plays, and they don't tend to stick around with one team very often.

Typically it takes a year or two for CBs to adjust to the NFL. So even if we would have taken a Dennard or Gilbert this year there's no guarantee they would be any good this year. Slay is in his 2nd year and Green, Bentley, and Greenwood are in their 3rd. Add in the guy we drafted this year (can't remember his name) in the 4th round and you have 5 guys with 2 or less years of experience. I'm not worried about this at all
