It is *already* the scariest thing I've ever played just a few hours in (just suffered first Alien death). And that includes movies, but I've never really watched any horror movies or played any scary games really. And I was actually almost crying right after I died LOL, crazy right? I'll only play at night and in the dark with headphones on for the full experience, and I'm trying to just engage in it as much as possible, really *be* in the game trying to survive. But I don't talk to myself. I just sit in my chair scared to death and shaking, that is, until I screamed when I died lol. --> linkI've seen a fair amount of horror movies but I don't find any of them "scary," however, Amnesia: The dark descent is a terrifying video game if you are looking for anymore. I've never found a movie scary. I'm EXTREMELY jumpy, so I'll jump at every jump scare in every movie or game for the rest of my life, but I've never actually felt any kind of scare from really any movie before. I have watched *a few* horror movies, and I just thought they were all dumb, hence why I haven't watched but a few. I also haven't really played any horror games, but that's because I've never really seen any that interest me since I've been playing games the past few years. But it all changed with Alien: Isolation. It's intense af and I just started. Also, funny you bring that game up, because I hadn't even heard of it before about 15 minutes before you mentioned it. I just watched a video with PS Store's new stuff this week, and I saw that a new game called SOMA had just come out. It's a survival horror I believe by the same makers as Amnesia, and it's been getting good reviews. It certainly peaked my interest in the little I saw.

I think it's hard for a movie to scare outside of jump scares and such things that no one really enjoys. I generally watch horror films hoping for them to be more viscerally disturbing, but not in a Saw/I Spit on Your Grave or Shock horror type of way but like Nosferatu or some parts of Hausu.

So... Pawn Sacrifice comes out to all theaters tomorrow! Unfortunately my hometown theater doesn't fall into the "all theaters" category, so I will have to drive an hour to see it. lol even if you're not a chess nerd like me, it looks like it might be a decent movie.

I generally watch horror films hoping for them to be more viscerally disturbing, but not in a Saw/I Spit on Your Grave or Shock horror type of way but like Nosferatu or some parts of Hausu. To me a true horror film is in the eye of the beholder. Best way to scare someone is to find what it is they personally fear and play to that. That is how you truly scare someone. Jump movies are meh, even none horror films can do that, Van Helsing for example, not really a horror movie, though it deals with monsters and such. It has plenty of scenes where shit jumps out of no where and frightens you, but its not a scary movie. For me one of the scariest movies I have ever watched wasn't even a horror movie. It was Law Abiding Citizen. The opening scene in this movie hit a nerve in me that caused me to be terrified throughout the whole movie, and brought more gravity to everything that happened in the movie and it cause me to feel sick to my stomach with dread. Another movie that dredges up fear in me is the Strangers. Now this one I have never actually watched, but I can clearly remember the commercials. There was one line in the commercials that caused me to have nightmares for a while, even still I get nightmares based around the premise. The movie was basically about a group of masked strangers invading this couples home and terrorizing them. The specific line I am speaking of is "Why are you doing this to us?" answered with "Because you were home." Even still that gives me bad shivers up my spine. Things that are more based in reality scare me more, that any ghost, monster or paranormal thriller. Things that speak to what I fear. Being trapped, feeling out of control of my own life, not being able to protect the people I love, movies based on things like this scare the shit out of me.
