Barely a week after making Earl Thomas the highest paid Safety in the NFL with a 4 year/$40 Million extension, the Seahawks have maid Richard Sherman the highest paid CB in the NFL with a 4-Year/$57 Million extension with $40 Million guaranteed.

That is a LOT of money. Not only did he bank in on the guaranteed money, but overall 14,000,000 per year is a hell of a lot for a guy at a position where players can decline on a season-to-season basis.
I can see that the 16,000,000 per year Revis was/is making has not been taken into account in terms of Sherman making more APY over him. Who saw that coming?

You don't think it was taken into account? 14.25 per year AND 40 million guarentee? You stubborn brah

They assumed Sherman would be making more, meaning more than 16 million per year. Clearly NFL people see the Revis deal as a unique one and did not look at the APY like others wanted to assume.

One, idk who 'they' is referring. If you mean people on this forum. I know for a fact no one said he'd make -more- than 16 MPY. That contract clearly influenced Sherman's deal. 14.25 is crazy money for a CB, and over 2/3s of it is fully guaranteed? It's a big compromise between 16 MPY but with a ton of guaranteed money.

Multiple people, not just people here (since you assume I only come here), said that Revis making 16 MPY was a direct benchmark for Sherman's deal, and that is just not true. Revis' deal with the Buccaneers was a once and a lifetime-type deal and his deal with NE was misleading if people saw it as a 2-year deal worth 32 million dollars. That is just how it is there. People said that Revis made 16 MPY and if Sherman would be the highest paid CB in the league, that he would make more than 16 MPY.

I specifically said I don't know who 'they' and then said 'if you mean' It was clearly a benchmark. He took less MPY for tons of guarenteed money.

Good, good. The Seahawks and 49ers are going to have to start throwing a lot of cash at their franchise players and it's going to start eating away at their ability to sign future players. Just wait until Wilson and Kap need new contracts.
The NFL is all about how much production you can from your players on their rookie contracts, and the amount of production you can get from players at an affordable price. At lest in terms of long term success.
