Our team has a lot of issues, and with our playoff hopes officially on life support, I figured we could use a thread like this.
Post ideas regarding the future here. This offseason. Cuts, signing, extensions, draft, firings, etc.
At work so can't write a lot but I'll say this:
Keisel and Clark should be gone for sure.
Have to find a way to keep Worilds.
The OL still has potential. Also, don't see the need to take a OT high. Adams still has potential and there is no point using a high pick on a cursed position. The guy would get injured anyway.
DL needs more talent. Still not sure about #90 at NT.
Defense needs more talent. Plain and simple. Offense could use another Wr and TE maybe.
None of the 3 main coaches needs replaced.

This team needs more talent than anything. If anyone should be on the hot seat it's GM Kevin Colbert. And I don't really think he is either.

I wouldn't mind letting go of as many vets as possible with exception of those that would create a lot of dead money over a number of years, Taylor unfortunately is one of them. I'd offer him a cheap 3 year contract to spread out his cap and make it relatively easy to cut him a season or two in and possibly make him the CB-3 behind Allen and Gay.
I'd say Worilds, Hood, Cotchery, Woods, as well as decide between Felix Jones And Stephens-Howling with Felix likely getting the nod. Would also consider resigning Cody Wallace and Guy Whimper as depth, as well as cut Levi Brown and resign him to a better contract. I'd also like to see Velasco signed, it's going to be extremely difficult to resign Pouncey.
I'm perfectly fine with the DL as the way it is. The Steelers are very unlikely to draft an early round NT like Lois Nix. Mainly because they have played more 4-3 under than base defense the past few seasons, that's with the OLBs acting as stand up DEs and Heyward and Hood in the middle with no NT. I'd say they won't draft a defensive linemen unless someone like Stephon Tuitt or RaShede Hageman are by far BPA and they feel like they may or have lost a combination of Hood, Woods, and/or Keisel in free agency . Personally my early favorite would be drafting a CB early and then drafting another later on in the draft. But if the Steelers are for whatever reason drafting later than expecting or trading down, my favorite TE by far would be Austin Seferian-Jenkins, 6'6" 276, the only TE that blocks worth a damn. He is absolutely huge with good hands and has a basketball history and does well boxing out defenders. He would be a perfect Heath Miller compliment/eventual replacement. Or a WR of course, but I'm sure most of you know I'd be pretty hesitant to draft a first round WR. Mike Evans may be the 2nd best WR in the class, but I have a feeling he will drop duo to an average combine and other WRs timing very well. And of course Allen Robinson would be my personal favorite, he plays like a tall Antonio Brown and would fit the current offense perfectly.
For LT I'm okay with Kelvin Beachum getting the early lead on playing LT next season, he has done well the last few weeks. But I'd put Adams and Levi Brown in that competition again as well. I agree that they likely wont draft a LT unless they get their hands on Jake Matthews or Cameron Erving, unless they really like Cyrus Kouandjio and they don't think that he's a project... Personally I think most Alabama products are overrated once they get in the NFL. Taylor Lewan doesn't exactly fit in the blocking system if they play on moving forward with the zone blitz.
As for coaches, I wouldn't mind replacing Haley if someone better were available... Also something has to be done with the Steelers conditioning coaches and medical staff. Too many of our players are getting injured and having reoccurrences of the same injury. For example Keisel had a reinjury, there is NO reason what so ever he needed to start have a significant amount of snaps. I have a feeling that Bell was not feeling all that great on Sunday either, which is why he likely missed a portion of the game after a good start. His concussion could have affected him on a level as simple as getting tired easily or feeling a bit lightheaded. Also the most damning... Levi Brown some how re-injured a previous injury in warm ups, how exactly did he pass the medical tests before they accepted the trade with the Cardinals?

If anyone should be on the hot seat it's GM Kevin Colbert. And I don't really think he is either. Ehh some things I like, and some things I don't, much like Arians. Except I don't feel like Haley's system is putting Ben at risk as much even though I do think he has been hit as much if not more. That's mainly duo to the OL and occasionally when Ben holds on too long. Haley at lest gives Ben an option short if he needs it when he gets in trouble. Ben has also done a pretty decent job of getting the ball out quicker. The only reason I'd keep him is because honestly who else are they going to get? Just off the top of my head are guys like Texans former HC Gary Kubiak, Falcons OC Mike Mularkey, Tom Moore Cardinal's Offensive Consultant and former play caller for Peyton in Indy up until 08. 49er's OL coach Mike Solari, and Saint's QB coach Joe Lombardi. If they were to get a new OC I'd prefer it be a former OL or QB coach more than anything.

To be honest the 1st round this season is really not all that impressive this season, at lest to my uneducated draftnik eyes.
The Steeler's first round draft board probably currently looks like
OT Jake Matthews, Texas A&M, Sr, 6-5 305
WR Sammy Watkins, Clemson, Jr, 6-1 205 (might time slow, most of his speed if from long strides)
OT Cameron Erving, Florida State, rJr, 6-5 320
WR Mike Evans, Texas A&M, rSo, 6-5 225 (slow)
OT Cyrus Kouandjio, Alabama, Jr, 6-5 310 (raw, good surrounding talent)
OT Taylor Lewan, Michigan, rSr, 6-7 315 (might not fit ZBS)
TE Jace Amaro, Texas Tech, Jr, 6-5 260 (not a blocker)
DE Stephon Tuitt, Notre Dame, Jr, 6-6 312
CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, Oregon, Jr, 5-10 185
CB Darqueze Dennard, Michigan State, Sr, 5-11 197
WR Marqise Lee, Southern California, Jr, 6-0 195
TE Eric Ebron, North Carolina, Jr, 6-4 245 (joker TE, not a blocker at all)
WR Davante Adams, Fresno State, rSo, 6-2 205
CB Justin Gilbert, Oklahoma State, Sr, 6-0 200
DE RaShede Hageman, Minnesota, rSr, 6-6 311
WR Allen Robinson, Penn State, Jr, 6-3 210
OT Cedric Ogbuehi, Texas A&M, rJr, 6-5 300
FS Hasean Clinton-Dix, Alabama, Jr, 6-1 208
WR Jordan Matthews, Vanderbilt, Sr, 6-3 205
TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Washington, Jr, 6-6 276
My early favorites for the Steelers would be WR Mike Evans, he will have an average 40 time and likely wont perform well but you can't teach size or hands so depending on where the Steelers pick at Evans very well could be there. CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, teams want their very own Richard Sherman, and Ifo has an average NFL height for NFL CBs but that really doesn't matter. A push for QBs early in the draft could have guys like Ekpre-Olomu and CB Darqueze Dennard fall. WR Marqise Lee doesn't impress in size or speed, but you don't find very many WRs with great route running coming right out of college, the Steelers had a great deal of interest in Lee's teammate Robert Woods, the two are pretty comparable. I think teams are going to over looking the blocking aspect of playing TE and try to find the next Jimmy Graham or Vernon Davis. Austin Seferian-Jenkins compares more to a guy like Heath Miller, not quite the gold standard of TEs like Rob Gronkowski, but a very good prospect none the lest. I'd also consider Cyrus Kouandjio a viable option if they think he is not too much of a project. With the Steeler's DL playing more of an attacking role rather than an occupying role as of late, and the possibility of losing depth might lead to the Steelers considering on taking Stephon Tuitt and Ra'Shede Hageman. Hageman is ranked around a 1/2 round pick, but his freakish athletic ability and size will rocket him up the draft board. Both might play well in LeBeau's defense much better now than they would have 2 or 3 seasons ago with LeBeau mixing different fronts into the line up, a lot of which with 4-3 under (the defense the Seahawks use a lot) with Woodley acting as a stand up end, and the big nickel with 4 down linemen. DEa Brian Arnfelt and especially Nick Williams could be special low round picks or UDFA, but they are also incredibly raw. Williams has a good combination of size and athletic ability, but right now his upside is likely a value back up player.

And those are just the guys who I think have a good shot at being a 1st round pick. And then there are a BOATLOAD of guys who will go in the 2nd and 3rd round who are gonna be GREAT value picks.

I'm not too high on the players that would be needs and would fit with the Steelers. Right now I'm pretty glad that OT and WR are strengths in this draft. It doesn't help that I have no idea where the Steelers may be picking at and who would be available there. I guess let's assume the Steelers lose to the Bengals and the Packers if Rodgers is back and beat the Browns putting them at 6-10. Best case scenario we land Cameron Erving or Greg Robinson.
