Devin Mccourty was actually given full clearance to return to the field.
While our defense played a very good game against Buffalo, it did give up 5 or 6 big plays in the air. I think it is fair to say that 3 or 4 of those plays dont happen if Mccourty is in the middle of the field. He is arguably our best player on defense, and should receive a nice contract extension this off season.

This is the first year that Julian Edelman did not return a punt for a TD in his career. He is still the NFL's all time punt return average leader and is one of 2 players this season to have a punt return average of 11 yards or more, after returning at least 30 punts(other player Antonio Brown).

Josh McDaniels will interview with the Browns on Saturday in the New England area.
From Espn Boston: "Under league rules, only assistants with teams that earned byes in the first week may interview for vacant head coaching positions. Under league policy, teams seeking a head coach may interview bye-week candidates but are not allowed to offer them a job or engage in negotiations until that team is finished with its postseason."

Brandon Spikes place on IR. He has been playing on a significant knee injury all season. This hurts our run defense, which has improved significantly over the past 5 weeks. It does help our pass defense, as Dane Fletcher/Jamie Collins is a significant upgrade in pass coverage over Spikes.
Very good chance Spikes is not resigned this offseason. He is one of the top LB's in the league against the run, but also one of the worst against the pass. I cannot see him getting a significant contract from New England, so it will all depend on what his market looks like.
There was no sign that Spikes would be placed on IR, but he had left the last 2 games early with the same knee injury that he had been dealing with all season. It is not clear what the exact injury is, but it is expected to require surgery.
In other news the Colts have signed former Patriot receiver Deion Branch. I cant imagine he will offer much, as he was completely ineffective last season, and was on the field only as a decoy. Branch athletic ability has significantly dropped off over the past 3 seasons.
Well known reporter Gil Brandt expects Houston to make a play for QB Ryan Mallett. This is something I had mentioned as a possibility a few days ago. Mallett would be the perfect QB for Bill Obrien, and would come in with an excellent understanding of his system. That is one significantly advantage of trading for Mallett over drafting a QB. Their wernt any significant talks for Mallett last year for a couple of reasons. First off teams could not extent his contract, and second off the requested return was an early second or late 1st rounder. Both of those factors prevented any trade from happening. The value will be the same this year, but teams will be able to give Mallett a contract extension when trading for him.
With Spikes placed on IR, one roster spot is open. I dont expect a LB too be added, even with both Mayo and Spikes done for the year. Dane Fletcher will likely get the start at MLB, with Hightower playing weekside, and Collins Strong side. There is a decent amount of depth at the position, and DE Rob Ninkovich can also play all 3 LB positions. Watch our for a possible receiver signing, if the health of Aaron Dobson isnt there yet. Austin Collie has been the guy signed when a receiver gets hurt, but with Boyce on IR, Collie's spot is now permanent. Receiver Michael Jenkins would likely get the call, if an additional receiver is needed. Another possibility is resigning CB/Special Teamer Marqice Cole.

RB Jonas Gray signed to a future contract. This does not count against the current roster.
