www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000216503/article/shane-vereen-lined-up-at-wideout-in-spring-practiceNot all the details are in this article, but the idiot who broke the report believes Vereen will be the number 2 receiver. When we drafted Vereen I had mentioned how he has the ability to stretch the field with the deep ball, and run underneath routes like a slot receiver, however he wont be the number 2 receiver. He will line up at receiver at times, like he did last season as well as Ridley and Woodhead. Expect Vereen to put up slightly better numbers than Woodhead. Probably simular catch numbers in that 40-50 range, but probably a few more yards per catch. Mark my words, Ridley and Vereen will be one of the top 1-2 punches in this league. Ridley could rush for 1500 yards this year if he stays healthy, and Vereen could go for over 1000 all purpose yards. This offense compares to the 2001-2006 Patriots offense a lot more than the more recent offenses. Expect Amendola to be used like Welker, who was essentially a more explosive Deion Branch. It was almost a run first offense last year, and with Ridley and Vereen in their 3rd years, there should be even less reason to pass the ball. Basicly Gronkowski will be the Redzone threat, Amendola will move the chains, and Ridley will grind it out on early downs.

Sorry kid...not buying the hoopla. Ill believe it when I see it when it comes to Amendona being able to.come close to Welkers #'s and bailing the patriots out for 1st downs. Vereen and Ridley will be a dynamic duo though IMO. Gronk? Is he even going to play this season?

Honestly have you seen Ridley play? He is the real deal if you ask me, had almost 1300 yards last season in his first year as a starter, best back we have had since Corey Dillon. And Vereen really is a more explosive version of Woodhead, he might have been the main back over Ridley, but he was set back by hamstring injurys his rookie year. Gronks recovery time is suppose to put him with in days of the opener, the media has really made a much bigger deal about it then it actually is. Thats not to say its a minor operation, but his back surgery was planned. As for his forearm it is incredibly rare to break your forearm twice. His surgeries have been as planned, with the exception of an infection that was the reason for an additional operation. If it wasnt for modern day media, I dont think we would really be question Gronk's status. Basicly he wont play in the preaseason or training camp, should be ready for week 1, week 2 at latest. If he was out longer than that, then its fair to call it a set back. As for Vereen lining up at receiver, what probably happened was he lined up at receivers for a few plays, as he did in games last season. He is probably just seen out on the field more often, because he is basicly taking all of Woodhead's reps.

As for Gronk, the thing that I'd be concerned with all the time he's gonna miss in.conditioning and strength training while laid up with these surgeries. If he's rushed back too soon then it will just end up getting him hurt.

If he's rushed back too soon then it will just end up getting him hurt. The conditioning could be an issue, probably more from a fatigue standpoint than a physical build standpoint. Were just going to have to see him out on the field to find out how much it really effects him. My best guess is it might take him a few games to really get back to form. When Welker returned from his acl injury, he really wasnt the same player till halfway through the season. Of course that is a much bigger injury, and he had a lot less time than he was suppose to have to return. It does help the other TE's to have Gronk out of training camp and ota's. Zach Sudfield really made a name for himself during ota's, and hopefully he will continue to step up during training camp and preseason. He is more of a replacement for Hernandez than Gronk. There are mixed reports on how well Jake Ballard did in ota's. Obviously he is coming off a major knee injury, so it will take him some time to get going, but he is getting reps as the number 1 TE right now.
