Patterson is going to that type of WR who can only run straight. Running in and out routes I can see him missing his quick turn by a couple yards when he first steps on a NFL field. It will take him a few years or serious dedication to become smart enough.

at the pro level i dont think a person who cannot grip route running will have success. The guy playing zone defense near him will tho. But even as a returner this guy is dangerous and can be useful in other circumstances. But to be a wide out he will need to address his inabilities.

Yes. His routes are fine and are only improving.... And he is not a "straight line" guy. His agility is off the charts

You think he cannot "grip" routes? He was asked to run every route in the book at Tennessee and performed them all well considering his inexperience. They were not refined but they progressed all throughout the year and I know for a fact he has worked on them all off-season. His route-running will not be an issue in the league.

Well I mean his score of an 11 on the Wonderlic didn't help his cause, but then again Tavon Austin got an even lower score of a 7. I've never been a big believer of the Wonderlic in relation to football potential, but it's painfully obvious that Cordarelle Patterson will be slow out of the gates.

The question with Patterson is can his impressive physical abilities overcome his lack of football knowledge..

@beast - Because his ability is so off the charts, brains won't matter at first.
@jin - Once again, you cannot say he has no football knowledge. What is your source on this anyway? This is coming from a guy who watched EVERY down of CP's college career. Trust me. He can run routes. He is not a dumb player.

Ok, I will eat my words if Cordarelle Patterson finishes the season #1 in receiving yardage for rookies. I am not saying he won't be good, but I am concerned that he will be slow out of the gate and will take atleast 1 full NFL season to get on track

If he was still on the board at 29 I wouldnt touch him. He could fit some basic schemes imo, but I couldnt ever see him being good in the Patriots scheme.
