Am I the only one right now who thinks this fight NEEDS to be booked very soon in the future?
Jon Jones has been running through the UFC Light-Heavyweight division for 4 years now and no one has been able to beat him. He's 11-1 since coming to UFC (16-1 in MMA overall) and the only loss he's had came from being disqualified against Matt Hamill b/c he used 12-6 elbow shots to Hamill's face which is not allowed. So technically, he's only been beaten by himself. He just successfully defended his title for the 4th time last night against Vitor Belfort. What's even more impressive is how Belfort had him locked in an arm-bar in the very first round. Belfort was able to hyper-extend Jones's arm to the point where even Jones was quoted as saying "I don't think, physically, he could have extended it even more" and that his arm "was popping"... yet he got out of it and fought 3 more rounds with an injured arm that doctors are now saying they believe may have suffered nerve damage to his right bicep from the hold.
Current title run:
Mauricio "Shogun" Rua - 3rd Round via TKO where he won the title
Quentin "Rampage" Jackson - 4th Round via Submission
Lyoto Machida - 2nd Round via Submission
Rashad Evans - 5th Round via Unanimous Decision
Vitor Belfort - 4th Round via Submission
Anderson Silva has owned the UFC Middleweight division for over 6 years now. He is 15-0 since coming to UFC (30-4 in MMA overall). He was given a title shot in only his second UFC fight in October of 2006 and has been the champion ever since. As champion, he has successfully defended his title 10 times. F'n insane. What's even more impressive about him is the fact that he's now 37 years old and still looks AND fights like he's 25.
Current title run:
*Denotes non-title fight
Rich Franklin -1st Round via TKO where he won the title
*Travis Lutter -1st Round via Submission
Nate Marquardt -1st Round via TKO
Rich Franklin - 2nd Round via TKO
Dan Henderson - 2nd Round via Submission
*James Irvin - 1st Round via TKO
Patrick Cole - 3rd Round via TKO
Thales Leites - 5th Round via Unanimous Decision
*Forrest Griffin -1st Round via KO
Demian Maia - 5th Round via Unanimous Decision
Chael Sonnen - 5th Round via Submission
Vitor Belfort - 1st Round via TKO
Yushin Okami - 2nd Round via TKO
Chael Sonnen - 2nd Round via TKO
I only feel this needs to be booked b/c I heard a lot about how Jon Jones could be considered the best in the world and since Anderson Silva is considered the best Pound-for-Pound fighter in the world, it only makes sense to have these two face each other. If Jones can successfully defend his title 2 or 3 more times, there would really be no top fighters left for him to beat in the Light-Heavyweight division.
And if that ends up being the case, and Silva is still champion by then as well, my opinion is this fight could very well truly be the greatest fight in UFC history.
