Trump does not represent the ideology of the conservative movement with the exception of his views on illegal immigration which appeals to the extreme right. The only reason he is doing so well is his appeal to people's built-up hate for the management of the government that we've seen for the past 20 years or so. He appeals to those on the right who are too politically ignorant to look into actual policy.
With that being said, with some effort I can still get behind him if he wins the nomination, which is sadly looking more and more likely. He is a much better option than the criminal or Comrade Bernie. Paul was by far the best candidate in the expanded field, but we know how that ended. Rubio is the best remaining candidate by a decent margin.

he'll bankrupt the country to help himself if he gets the chance. This country is already bankrupt, and our economy can't be saved. Not without DRASTIC changes. But the only measures that can be taken to fix it won't be taken. Truth is, doesn't matter who gets in office as far as our economy goes; we're screwed.

Honestly, I think Trump and Hillary are equally bad. I certainly wouldn't vote if they're the nominees.

saskabronco Jindred So, I showed my mom the John Oliver Trump (or, I'm sorry, Drumpf) video, and she ended up voting for Ben Carson in the primaries today. Maybe the video actually got through to her? Of course, it's not like Carson is even a remotely qualified candidate either, but at least it's not Trump. John Oliver for the win. And I have no idea how people could believe Hilary is as equally as bad as Trump. She is like... Objectively a better person than Trump. She flip flops on everything and basically personifies the whole "politician controlled by big business" thing, but that's unequivocally better than the prejudiced, bigoted, arrogant sack of shit that is Donald Drumpf.

Jesus Christ saskabronco I'm not that fucking stupid. I know very well the difference between communism and socialism. That was an exaggeration and a joke, if you've never heard one before. And how can you of all people even claim to understand what is wrong with the United States? You live in Canada, a democratically socialist society, which is not what the United States is today, although we are heading in that direction, and we have been for around 40 years. And I like how you didn't even acknowledge the fact that Hillary is a criminal and should be in jail for treason and jeopardizing national security, not to mention her extended history of lying, her mismanagement of Benghazi, and her lying to the families of the Benghazi victims. Her policies are highly similar to those of Obama, and we do not need 4-8 more years of that. It is laughable that you consider her qualified. She has done nothing worthwhile in a lifetime of "public service." And now onto our good friend Bernie. He has good intentions and is a good man overall, but his plans can not and will not work in the United States. They are economically crippling, and will only push the US further into debt. A centralized federal government can not effectively manage health care, education, and infrastructure, nor is it their job. Big government does not work. What makes you think that a government that has been mostly ineffective in its limited duties for 20 years can manage even more responsibility and not fuck something else up? Health care could stand some limited government intervention. Education has always and should always reside in the hands of local and state governments. If you don't like how it's being managed, elect someone else. A federal government which sets an easily manipulated and ineffective one-size-fits-all curriculum for millions upon millions of children, regardless of background, geographic location, and economic standing is wrong and only hurtful to future generations. The federal government cannot legislate people out of poverty (it literally has never worked and it never will) nor does it owe anyone a college education. They cannot and should not intercede into business to require paid leave or tamper with wages (minimum wage is obviously needed). And you are correct in saying Bernie's rebellion against the establishment is much more genuine than Trump's, and I admire him for that, but once again his actual policy cannot possibly be effective. Not to mention a Sanders administration could get almost nothing through Congress, so we would be stuck in the mud for 4 years. On another note, did you even watch the Republican debates? It sounds to me like you've read headlines and bought into the BS the media spews out. Yes there is bickering, and Trump causes 75% of it. The other 25% of it can be attributed to the god-awful management of the debates in the moderators' asking purposely inciting questions and rarely touching on in-depth policy. It is shameful. If you ignore that, there is genuine policy coming from each candidate if you listen to what they say and do research to delve deeper into their plans. And yes, Trump is very obviously a shitty human being who is borderline fascist, and he is a terrible candidate. But he is still better than Clinton or Sanders IMO. Like Jancey, I might lean towards writing in someone or not voting at all if Trump is the candidate. He's terrible. Honestly, this entire field of candidates on both sides is absolutely horrendous.
