And then afterwards, guess who is #1 on the drudgereport "who won the debate" poll? Trump by a wide margin. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY. At least Rand is #3, a few percent behind Cruz, but a few percent ahead of Rubio.

Jancey yes its amazing that Trump could botch that question so badly and still be voted the winner. It's really a glaring light on his actual knowledge of the issues that he can be that confident in something that is just factually untrue. Rand Paul started to get some points with me by correctly stating that executive power has been growing unchecked for many decades, not just the last decade. I think he was totally hyperbolic, however, over congress' weakness on trade and in general. When he said, "we don't write the rules, we don't make the laws, the president does," that's the kind of facetious hyperbole that can seriously mislead the uninformed in our country. I know that Paul knows that congress does write the rules and make the laws, on trade and on every subject. I'm not saying he's misinformed of his own job, I'm saying that he's being awfully dishonest by characterizing the president as a power to strong arm congress. We've seen over all of Obama's presidency that the executive branch's domestic and economic powers can be almost entirely limited by congress. Paul should know that better than anyone, he's been the one filibustering. It sounds as if Rand Paul wants congress to be able to entirely disempower the executive branch. Odd that he would be running for that office, then, isn't it?

If Congress wanted to take back power from the president, they need to do it by proxy via regulating the courts. They have the power to strip the president of his powers over the judicial branch, but they don't dare use it because they fear it would be unpopular. If you want to limit executive influence, they should actually do that, instead of whining about it on the debate stage while they run for that office. I'm with Paul that we need to further limit the president's power, but I don't think he actually will do that in congress, and certainly not if he were president. Can you imagine if Paul were president, what it would be like to replay that clip?
