Yankees fan.
God, why did we trade for Vernon Wells?
That money on his contract could have been used for Russell Martin or Swisher or a DECENT PLAYER!

Yankees fan. God, why did we trade for Vernon Wells? That money on his contract could have been used for Russell Martin or Swisher or a DECENT PLAYER! Exactly. I can't remember the last time I was so pessimistic about the season before it actually started. The only time I felt the team did the right thing was when they traded AJ Burnett to Pittsburgh. And there, he wasn't as bad as he was when with the Yankees.

Rockies - 2013 Outlook = Should be better than LAST year, but that's not saying much. The team had the worst record in franchise history last season, so improvement (record wise) is bound to happen. As far as actual ON FIELD improvement and things to look forward to...eh...we'll see. I'd like to see them at least be in the running for a WC spot in the second half of the season but HERE you never really know.
The ownership group here has a history of trying to play the "poor us" role, selling off their best players and not going after other guys that actually WOULD help out. They like to say they build from within, but a rebuilding project ONLY works if AFTER those good, young, 'home grown' players reach the major league club and become productive players - YOU KEEP THEM. You re-sign the guys coming into their prime and have the ability (or motivation) to build a WINNER and keep it as long as possible. This is not quite as bad a situation (or as visible a problem) as the Marlins seemingly ALWAYS end up in, but it is bad nonetheless.
What most of America (in a sports sense) sees is an empty stadium in Miami, even when the team has good players...this has been the way in South Florida since the inception of the team.
What most of America (in a sports sense) sees with the Rockies is an irrelevant team/organization that has little following and little motivation to change. This is an incorrect view, and the support that the team has had from the fans of the region is quite the opposite and the fans and local media have been clamoring for change for some time.
The problem has and will continue to be with the upper management of the organization (mainly ownership). They want to point out they have a 'small market', and that is why they will issue the explanations they do for their conduct, which is odd since the "market" for the Rockies is the entire region (consisting of several states). The team itself has had a tremendous following for YEARS here, and as a matter of fact the history of baseball in Denver goes back for decades, not just since '93 (the Rockies first MLB season). The GM here (Dan O'Dowd) usually is the one that gets blasted when the team dumps a player, but he wouldn't be having to make some of the moves he's had to make if the ownership would just allow him to build a team capable of competing on a consistent basis. He's trying to build a winner with BOTH hands tied behind his back...and then he's left holding the bag when things turn out poorly. Not that he's a GREAT GM, but you really can't put everything on him when he's having to work with the "poor us" ownership group he's had to work with.
Basically it's like this (and I've said this for years) - Pro sports is an expensive endeavor. The business of running a franchise takes $$$, and lots of it (obviously). IF a person (or group) doesn't have the means or gumption to compete in today's world of professional sports, then that person/group needs to get out of the industry. They really have no business owning a team if their main objective is not to win.
(sigh)...OK....I'm gonna take a breath now

the yankees are looking bad this year IMO. they have been a gold standard in baseball, but that wont happen this year IMO. once they get all there players back from injury though, they will play good though. but this organization's window is closing fast. soon they will be a struggling team unless they start building for the future soon. 4th place in your division is where i see them going
as for the rockies, the only positive thing IMO is that you guys arent the worst NL team. only 64 wins last year. nowhere but up right? honestly i think they get worse. if the padres finish ahead of them (which i think they will) then theres a problem. tank it in for a year IMO, because its gonna a long season
the cubs have one player IMO that will be the difference maker in there future if they are good or not and will be a future ace, and thats samardzija (weird name). for a guy that was only used in the bullpen, and then became a starter last year did a hell of a job. boy i would love to see the reds trade for him
------------------
wont be doing fantasy baseball. thats not my style. i do fantasy football, but thats about. ok beastified come out come out now and tell me why you think your cardinals even have a chance against the mighty redlegs this year. lol

Soler and Vizcaino (who is projected, by most scouting agencies, to be an ace) should have significant impact over the next two years. We need to make a few good signings, as well, but the future is not as dim as it seems.

The Padres have so many injuries already its pathetic. We have two great first basemen and two third basemen out for a few weeks. Forsythe has panklier slatrous something. Same thing Gates had for years. He is expected to be out six weeks. YA Right. He's history. Ask Gates.
