A rookie contract is typically 3 years. Harvin is entering his 5th year. How did that happen. Thought he had to be entering his 4th year so initially thought his contract should've been long over, but no, 5th year. He was apparently drafted when he was just 20.

Not all rookie contracts are 3 years... most 1st round rookies get 5 year contracts Most? Most? Find that hard to believe. TBH, not seen many 5 years out of cellege - San Bradford and maybe a few others. Isn't there a standard 3 year pay scale starting in the $400ks and ending at like $575k or something like that? How could a 1st round RB sign a 5 year contract, considering the career-span is 8 - 10 years if lucky??

Spiller signed a 6 year deal Nicks signed a 5 year deal Crabtree signed a 6 year deal Maclin signed a 5 year deal Moreno signed a 5 year deal Mathews signed a 5 year deal Dez signed a 5 year deal Best signed a 5 year deal DHB signed a 5 year deal DT signed a 5 year deal Britt signed a 5 year deal Not sure most teams want their 1st rounders being a RFA where they most likely have to pay a lot of money to keep them. Also that rookie scale started 2 years back when Cam was in the draft. I'm pretty sure most 1st round rookies had contracts in the 4-6 years length

Don't know much about this, but guessing is it's outside the 'standard' ( ) 3 year, the terms are more negotiable on the part of the rookie.

I'm pretty sure both the team and the player wants a long term contract. If memory serves me correctly, some of those contracts had a lot of guarenteed money in them and I'm guessing the longer the contract, the more guarenteed money you got. It's also hard to cut a 1st round rookie no matter how poorly they play, so it gives them some financial stability.

Hope this clears it up, was easier to go by rulingsports.com than the CBA again. Previously the contract length and setup was different, and more geared toward players, but this way, with the lighter guaranteed money and longer playing time, a team will reap the most rewards from the draft.

Harvin to get traded to the Seahawks for draft picks www.dailynorseman.com/2013/3/11/4089938/whelpI never understood why the Seahawks needs receivers. Golden Tate, Sidney Rice, Doug Baldwin are great receivers. There's no need to get another one

There's no need to get another one Sidney Rice is average at best at this point in his career, Doug Baldwin had one good season and fell off severely in 2012, and Golden Tate has only had one good season to his name. Just imagine Russell Wilson throwing deep balls to Percy Harvin. Scary...

Baldwin had "only one good season" because he was one of the main receivers in 2011 and in 2012 he was just a slot receiver. And Golden Tate is a good receiver too...one good season when he has played for three seasons and was just the main receiver now is a bad excuse
