I'm personally sick and tired of EA running the world of NFL Video Games. They continually make the same mistakes year in and out. They don't fix anything. They don't admit that they make mistakes. Online pass has serious issues with it, on top of it not making the game any better just making them money. They inexplicably take things out of the game that people like without replacing them. They don't add things that people who buy their game want to have added every year. They don't improve what people actually play they just try to emphasize what developers think people should enjoy but know that they don't. They remove customization every year and make certain segments, settings and parts of the game refuse to work correctly with other parts of the game. Every team has different schemes and every player is different but in this game it seems like the players only are bad or good and units are bad or good teams and players that different only seem to play better or worse not different in any other way. The ratings are always awful. The AI's make inexplicably horrible decisions in player development and FA. The game never plays like an actual NFL games. Teams don't make game day or yearly adjustments in schemes, maybe because schemes never seems to actually make a difference. They claim to make differences and change things but it usually feels like they just put in better graphics, change the menus, and update the rosters. I'm really sick of EA making the only NFL video game. The only game EA has ever developed that I like is Battlefield Two. I also have a very strong hatred of exclusive rights agreements, which I believe need to be included under anti-trust violations. I think EA should be able to continue making NFL games but I hate them being the only ones doing so.

They were pretty good for the time. I have gameday 2000 and a demo to gameday 1998.

I would love to see 2K Sports be allowed to do an NFL Game. Just look what they did with the NBA 2K series. It put NBA Live (EAs version) out of business. I think that is what they are afraid of and why they try so desperately to get exclusive rights to NFL games. I agree that EA monopolizing the NFL video game industry isn't fair to gamers. It forces us to put up with what can sometimes be a mediocre game at best (Madden 13 has become somewhat of a bust after the initial hype around it).

EA sells a lot of Madden Games but I'm pretty positive that if anyone else decided to make an NFL game themselves they'd sell more especially after it overcame Madden. One of the biggest problems is that there is ZERO competition. EA and the NFL rigged it so that there wouldn't be. How free market is that? Since we allow that though, we are reaping what we sow. We get a shitty video game franchise. I'd say that we get an overpriced game too but that is a different problem (AKA illegal price rigging in video games).

I forgot about Head Coach 1 and 2. Those are some of my favorite games ever. I always thought they should have brought several aspects of those games in but the only one they ever did was the coach's schemes affecting player overalls.

I quit playing madden in '10 due to the issues, was half tempted to get '13 due to you guys' praise, but once it all died down, the truth is the game still sucks, and I saved $60 by not getting it.
NFL needs to let loose the reigns on the video game and sunday ticket packages to reach more people and provide a better product. Hell at this point THQ could make a better NFL game than EA.

THQ filed for bankruptcy. Don't think they'll be making ANY game in the near future haha. But yeah, I agree with you about the Madden games. I was disappointed in Franchise mode in '10 and skipped '11 when I found out they weren't changing any thing in franchise. First Madden I skipped since Madden 2001. Gave '12 a try and it sucked. Then, I mistakenly bought into the hype of all the new shit in '13... but yet again, I was disappointed. I think they need competition in order to get their shit together. Problem is, people get the game regardless b/c it's the only football fix on the market. As long as the cash is coming in and there's no competition, they will continue to underwhelm the majority of their fan-base with half-assed programming and constant removal of popular features (editing players in Franchise and no fantasy drafts).

Madden needs competition.. They get by doing shit work because they are the only NFL football game out there.. Really the only Football game anymore.. They polish a turd every year.. I enjoy it for the first 3 weeks and then the polish wears off and all the shit comes out.. And there I am playing Shit..
Fifa is good cause of PES NHL is good do to NHL 2k MLB is good do to 2k sports
Last great Madden game was 2005 and they were competing with 2k sports.. they need competition! Someone needs to challenge them again so they are forced to put out a good game damnit!

Still don't see how THQ managed to do that to themselves, if they would have downsized and worked on quality over quantity they should have been ok in the long run. I mean, they did have A LOT of success with the WWE games.
