this game might seem very meaningless for the bengals here, because cincy is already locked in the 6th seed and will be playing the texans, broncos, patriots, or ravens on the road. of course depending on a win or loss here, it could determine who the bengals play in the playoffs. ill get to more of that later, heres some positives and negatives of the game
POSITIVES: WR a.j green catch 10 passes for 116 yards last week. bengals are 2nd in the league in sacks with 47 of them. geno atkins has 11.5 sacks this season and leads the team. LB ray lewis will not play this game. the bengals will not rest there starters this game. the last 7 weeks the bengals have allowed the fewest points and yards on defense.
NEGATIVES: RB ray rice has averaged at least over 100 of all purpose yards in every game this season. QB joe flacco had at least 300 passing yards and 3 tds last week. ray rice also has had 7 TD's against the bengals in his last 4 games against them. joe flacco is also 6-3 against the bengals, and has won 4 straight on them. during that span, flacco has had a 71 completion percentage and the bengals have made 11 turnovers
it might seem stupid to not rest there starters this game because they could risk an injury, but the bengals have struggled in week 17 in the past when they went to the postseason, and it ended up causing them to lose in the playoffs. momentum is important for this team and heres why.
in 2005, they rested there started against the chiefs in week 17 and ended up getting hammerd 37-3. they went on to lose to the steelers in the playoffs 31-17. in 2009 they rested there starters against the jets and lost 37-0 and then ended up losing to the jets again in the playoffs 24-14. last year in 2011 the bengals lost to the ravens 24-16 even though the bengals played there starters again (they needed to win to get in, they didnt, but thanks to the jets, broncos, and raiders losing, they made it in) and then went on in the playoffs only to once again get destroyed 31-10 to the texans.
NOTES: the bengals have played CB dre kirkpatrick and K mike nugent on IR. kirkpatrick was a 1st round draft choice for the bengals, who only played 4 games for them this year, is one of the worst rookies of the year already. nugent played 12 games and was 19 for 23 until he got hurt in practice. K josh brown has played the last 3 games though and has been 8 for 9 this year so far
to make up for 2 players on the IR, the bengals promoted CB chris lewis harris from the practice squad, and claimed bears WR dane sanzenbacher off of waviers. lewis harris played one game with the bengals this year, and then was demoted back to practice squad. sanzenbacher had only 1 catch for 7 yards this year with the bears in 5 games, but did have 27 catches, 276 yards and a TD with the bears last year.

PLAYOFF SENARIO
like i said the bengals already locked in the 6th seed, so they will go on the road no matter what. i want to play balitmore, but if the bengals win this game, they wont play them. if they lose to the ravens, and the pats lose, then the bengals will play the ravens
my 2nd choice would be the texans because i want revenge from last year. if the texans lose, and the broncos and pats win, the bengals will play the texans
3rd choice is the pats. if the texans and broncos win, AND if either the patriots win OR the ravens lose, the bengals will play the pats
last choice of course if the broncos, which thankfully is not likely to happen. if the texans and patriots win, and the broncos lose, the bengals will play the broncos
i dont feel that comfortable about any of these games though. and its not because of the bad fact the bengals havent won a playoff game in 21 years, its the fact the bengals have NEVER (I REPEAT NEVER) have won a playoff game on the road in franchise history. how pathetic is that?
PREDICTION
i would like to play the ravens again in the playoffs, but that requires us to lose, which i dont want to happen, because i want to see momentum in the playoffs. and nor will i think a loss will happen. i see no chance the patriots or broncos lose today either. so we will head to new england or houston IMO. the texans vs colts game will be the pivotal point i believe. i think the texans win, but im hoping for a colts win
pack your bags gentlemen, you earned yourself a trip to new england and the bengals go on a winning note. get ready for the trash talk to began with pats16n0.
