The smokey mountain conference, (The most western conference in North Carolina) for the second year in a row has 2 teams playing in state championships:
(1A) Murphy vs. Plymouth
(1AA) Swain county vs. Southwest Onslow
Last year both these teams went 2-0 in the state championships, my team (Murphy) is going back to state for the 3rd straight season. There are some good players bound to come out of these schools for college (at least) FCS.

NC Preps says Murphy lost to Albemarle 0-24 and that Albemarle is playing Plymouth.
And very few players from 1A go to big schools, maybe a few will go to App or something.
All the talent comes from Charlotte (3AA to 4AA) and the SEC (4A and 4AA)

It has been corrected on preps.
I may watch some of the Butler-Jack Britt game tomorrow. Its on live tv. I have loose ties to both schools kinda. I live in Charlotte now, where Butler now rules the roost. I am from Pinehurst and went to Pinecrest for a year, and Jack Britt used to be in our conference.
Butler will probably kill them by 20+ though. No one can hang with them. They have been #1 in NC for like 3 years and are like #6 in the nation.

Butler doubled up Jack britt 56-28. falcon's Murphy lost.

If you are comparing conferences based on to the level of their competition then yeah. But if you are just talking about best conference overall, no way. Every 4A team in the state would beat Murphy or Swaim, or any 1A team by 30. Butler would beat the best 1A, 1AA, 2A, 2AA, or 3A team by 60 or more. |

Yes I am talking about level of competition, every year Murphy schedules a game against a school of bigger level. In recent years it's been 3A Franklin. They've managed to win a couple but mostly they lose. Our coach (Gentry) loves to schedules games like that for tests. Murphy also scrimmages against 3A Asheville, they never win but they do test. So based on 1A Smoky Mountain conference is among the best. |

Of course against AAA schools from north Georgia, Murphy came away with victories against Ringgold and Fannin county in 2008, lost badly to Ringgold in 2009 and almost beat Fannin, barely lost to Ringgold in 2010 and haven't played them since, barely beat Fannin, and they blew out fannin each of the last 2 years. So Murphy can play against 3A, but I agree they're crazy to play against a 4A school.
