After beating the Giants in New York, the Steelers get a bit of a break against Kansas City on Monday Night Football in Pittsburgh (where, incidentally, they haven't lost a MNF game since 1991 and have been perfect under Mike Tomlin). I don't think anyone honestly believes that the Chiefs have a chance in this game, but I am going to be as non-biased as I can with my analysis.
Keys for the Chiefs
1. Beat the Steelers with big plays
- This is starting to feel like a trap game to me and I am hoping that Dick Lebeau isn't underestimating the Chiefs like he did against the Broncos in the Playoffs. Though, there is a chance that LeBeau and the Steelers could focus on the Run a little too much. That should give some room for Dwayne Bowe to get the ball downfield (assuming he wants to catch it and not use every chance he can to further his case for being traded).
2. Give Charles the rock early and often
- The Steelers Run Defense has been shaky at best this season. They did however shut down the Redskins to only a total of 67 yards(59 for Morris and 8 from RG3). However, the Chiefs need to control the clock if they want to stay in this game and not panic while getting behind early like they have this season.
3. Keep down the turnovers
- The Chiefs are dead last in the NFL with a horrendous -29 turnover differential. They fumble the ball at an alarming rate and against an efficient Offense like the Steelers, that will kill them. Cassell also needs to make smarter decisions and not panic when they are down as I mentioned above.
Keys for the Steelers
1. Run the ball
- With the way our OL has been blocking as of late and how Redman and Dwyer have been running, I see no reason to stop what they have been doing. The Chiefs are 23rd in the NFL in Rush Defense. That should help as well. Not to mention, WR Antonio Brown will be out of the game so that limits our Passing attack a little.
2. Dominate TOP
- The Steelers are best when they can control the clock with long, methodical drives that wear out a Defense. If they run the ball how they should be able to, then this will not be a problem.
3. Protect Ben
- The Steelers OL has done a pretty good job of protecting Ben this season and are on pace for the lowest sack total since his rookie year. This has also been due to Todd Haley's new "dink-and-dunk" Offense which features short passes designed to move the chains and to get the ball out of Ben's hands quicker. Running the ball the way the Steelers have will also help this out.
Prediction
Steelers - 31
Chiefs - 10
