I think I've overrated Hurney before... I bet you know that, Hurney is good at picking in the first round, and good at finding late round guys, but he hasn't been helping this team go in the right direction.
It had to be done. Hopefully Rivera, Chud, and McDermott or next.

Not sure why they picked now, though...
Expecting ESPN and NFLN to compare this to Dwight Howard Stan Van Gundy with Cam and Hurney.

I literally just read about this and came here only to see you announced it 3 minutes before haha
He's one of the best at picking good players in the first round. Otah can be considered the only "bust" since he became the GM in 2002. Cam and Keuchly remain to be seen. But second and third rounds have been his absolute worst and the back-to-back draft day trading of future first round picks to move up and select Otah in 2008 and Everette Brown in 2009 really killed us. What's even worse is he was actually considering trading away our 2011 first rounder to move up and select Clausen in 2010. Granted if Cam doesn't work out, it would've been a wasted first rounder either way.
I don't think he's as bad of a GM as a lot of fans have made him out to be, but I agree it was a move that had to be done. Personally, I would have rather of seen him go with John Fox b/c the new GM will probably clean house with the coaching staff leaving last season and this season a waste too. Here's hoping the new guy can do what Dimitroff did with the Falcons.

Speculation's already are starting again about hiring Cowher next season:
Unless we go 8-2 the rest of the way and finish with at least a 9-7 record, I don't see the coaching staff lasting past this season.

Cowher would be nice.
But, I want someone like Mike Tomlin more than anything.
