Graves set out to join the dark brotherhood in Windhelm, the capitol of the Nord-controlled eastern province of Skyrim. Without a steed of his own or the gold necessary to hire a carriage from Riverwood, Graves underwent the long journey of walking through the rift. He passed Giants camps filled with level 100 villains who could have smacked him to the moon and back. He was attacked by a group of khajit mercenaries sent to finish the job the imperials started in Helgen, but they were easily dispatched.
When Graves arrived at the massive gates of Windhelm in the middle of the night, a thick rain bounced off the plated armor he purchased in Riverwood. The lights were out in all the homes and businesses of the capitol in the wee hours of the morning, but one solitary candle lit his clamoring approach. Graves knew the local inn wasn't where he'd gain admission to the Dark Brotherhood, the assassin's guild in Skyrim, but he figured he could at least stay the night and start asking around in the morning.
Shortly after renting a room for the night, he heard quite a commotion coming from the main hall. A talented bard sang a tale of worship for the god of the Nords. Pints clanged and tilted, toes and ankles banged on the floor, and chatter about the lives of the party-goers filled the hall. When Graves ordered a pint of his own and sat down with two dirt covered Bretons, he listened rather than spoke. The men spoke of a young orphan named Arentino. Allegedly, he was performing the black sacrament somewhere in Windhelm, and that the Brotherhood would hear his call soon. They expressed skepticism, but it was the best lead Graves had.
Tracking down the Arentino boy, Graves soon learned the rumors were true. This young orphan was calling for the murder and damnation of an elderly woman in the nearby hold of Riften. Speaking with Arentino, Graves learned that the Dark Brotherhood hadn't heard the call yet. If Graves could take care of the contract and get the payment to a member of the Brotherhood, maybe they would accept him into their ranks...
There's just one catch: the target of the hit is an elderly orphan tender named Grelod the Kind. Grelod runs the Riften Children's home all by herself. Killing her in cold blood would not only shut down the children's best hope at three hot meals in skyrim, it might also damn Graves to a lifetime in Riften's prison mines if he were caught.
Should Graves:
A: Carry out the hit and attempt to join the brotherhood, even if it means murdering an old woman in cold blood
B: Reject the assignment and pick a different way to gain respect in Skyrim.

Graves left Arentino's one room home having promised the boy that Grelod would be taken care of. Her orphanage, where Arentino would be shipped to in a weeks time or less, sat upon Skyrim's South River in Riften. With a 2000 gold coin contract waying down Graves' pockets, hiring a fare was no trouble this time. Paying a tax to enter the city also wouldn't have been trouble, except that Graves needed to make sure that no official documentation would list him as having traveled to Riften today. A quick bribe of a guard was all he needed to enter through the military barracks.
Graves knew that he would need to make his escape after nightfall, so he ordered a fine meal of venison stew and juniper pie at the local inn. He flirted with the bartender and even bought a fine silver ring with a garnet jewel in the center. He planned to enchant it later to increase its value, and then flip it back to a mage looking to buy artifacts such as this one.
When dusk finally fell upon Riften late that night, Graves approached the orphanage. It wasn't even locked yet for the night, much to his surprise. He entered and drew his longbow, pointing the arrow at Grelod's eyes. It hurt him to do it to the old hag, but he let the arrow fly. It made contact, the children froze in confusion, not a scream let out, and Graves ran for the door.
To his surprise, a young, beautiful woman stood between him and the door. She must have been an assistant to Grelod.
"You fool!", she said. "Why not wait until the children went to bed? It was only going to be a few more minutes, and now they'll catch you for sure. Besides, that was my contract."
The woman introduced herself as Astrid of the Brotherhood, all while slipping out the the long curvy dagger that she would have used to take out Grelod had Graves not done it for her.
"Very well. I suppose you got here first, and I really should have seen you come in, so that's my fault."
Astrid put away her knife and slipped off the long orange dress she was wearing to blend in. This revealed the all black skin tuit cloak suit. Magically enchanted, she could now barely be seen even inside by candlelight. She slipped past Graves and out a window to his right, leaping three stories without making a sound. Astrid was gone as soon as she had arrived.
Graves returned to bed that night in the Candlehearth Hall, but instead of staying up drinking, he went to bed right away, now racked with grief over the murder. As distraught as he may have been, he couldn't stop thinking of Astrid and his future with the dark brotherhood. He fell asleep quickly due to exhaustion, and it felt to him as if he slept for a very long time.
His wakening was not as it should have been. Even without being able to see the sun, Graves felt as if he had been asleep for days. Not only that, he wasn't in Candlehearth hall anymore. He lay on hard wood in a one room cottage, totally naked and freezing cold. Above him on the top of a bookshelf, Astrid sat in her black cloaked armor.
"I was wondering when you'd come to." she said.
Astrid explained to him that by accepting the contract from Arentino and keeping the bounty for himself, Graves had stolen from the dark brotherhood. As such, his life was forfeit and she could kill him if she choose to. Still, she had a better idea in mind. Behind Graves, three hooded figures were kneeling with their hands and feet tied. They were Astrid's prisoners. She explained to Graves that one of them had a contract on his head and needed to be killed today, in this shack. If Graves figured out which one and executed that person, he would be allowed into the brotherhood. If he chose wrong, he would be killed. Alternatively, if he refused Astrid, she would allow him to live. This however, came with the promise that she would one day be the one to kill him, even if it meant 50 years from now, Graves death would come at her hand. Astrid hands Graves her curved dagger to execute a prisoner.
Here comes Graves dilemma. Should he:
A: Attempt to discern the guilty one out of three and execute that person? If so, he can interview each one and ask them a few questions. Still, there's no way he can make them tell the truth.
B: Refuse Astrid. Give up on the dark brotherhood and ensure that he can live another day in his quest to pursue bitches.
C: Turn the dagger on Astrid and try to kill her instead.

This is a really tough call. I feel the wrong answer here will end the game.
My final answer is C.

You probably shouldn't listen to me though, cause I haven't read a word of this thread. I just wanted to screw stuff up.

I'm pretty proud of my calling to murder a little old lady that runs an orphanage (in front of the children no less!) Fun plot twist: "Grelod the Kind" ended up being an ironic misnomer. She was actually a terrible, abusive woman who ran the orphanage for profit and extorted the kids for labor. That's why a kid took out a hit on her rather than go there. When I murdered her in front of the kids, they started cheering.

Well, this is awkward.
If you've ever played Skyrim, you'll know you can't jump very high. Astrid's sitting on a bookshelf and I can't hit her from here.
Choose A or B lol.
