Welcome everyone to this weeks bengals weekly preview between the bengals and jaguars
GAME INFO
the bengals will be playing the jaguars in jacksonville on september 29th at 4:05 PM ET on CBS. this game isnt gonna get alot of attention this week because most people expect the bengals to win this week, and the jags arent good. check this link to see if you have this game. the506.com/nflmaps/2012/wk4.html . the bengals will once again wear there white away jerseys for a 4th time in a row this year. the bengals will likely wear there black home jerseys next week.
RUNDOWN
obviously not a big game this week, seeing as the bengals are still contenders for a playoff spot, while the jags are still going in rebuilding mode. this use to be a division rivalry though for some time, and the games are usually close between these two cats. the bengals better be careful not to overlook this game
NOTES
*last week CB nate clements was moved to SS against the redskins, while terence newman and adam jones started at CB that week. because nobody was able to step it up at SS between taylor mays and jeromy miles, marvin lewis decided to give clements a shot at S instead, which it didnt work out that well either. the depth chart still lists mays as the starter at SS, and its not likely clements will be starting at SS again this week, because of injury
*due to the fact nobody is stepping it up at the SS position, the bengals went out and re-signed S chris crocker to the team. he started all 16 games last year for the bengals at SS, but was released in the offseason due to playing terrible in the postseason and saying some bad things about hines ward in the offseason. crocker is not likely to start, but he will add depth. however, the bengals will likely only have 2 CBs this sunday, so i think its a bad move when the team needs a CB and not a S.
*since the bengals had to sign chris crocker, they had to cut someone. so they decided to cut backup TE donald lee. lee was signed during the season last year to help backup TE jermaine gresham who missed some games. lee made a couple of great catches at the time, but cant stay healthy this year so he must be cut. that means rookie TE from georgia orson charles has moved in the backup role
HISTORY
the jaguars currently are 11-7 all time against the bengals. however the bengals are currently are on a 2 game winning streak on the jaguars. last time both teams played each other was last year where the bengals won 30-20 in jacksonville. last time they both played in cincinnati 2008, the bengals also won 21-19. last time the jaguars beat the bengals was 2005 in jacksonville where they won 23-20. last time the jaguars beat the bengals in cincinnati was 2002 where they won 29-15.
THE FIVE KEYS TO VICTORY
5.Win on special teams and Turnovers. the bengals have played well on special teams so far this year which is important if they want good field position on there offense and defense. however turnovers have not been as good for the bengals this year. they have only made 2 forced fumbles all year and no INTS yet, while the bengals have turned it over 5 times this year so far. they need to get turnovers more often soon
4.Make Gabbert pass it more. the jags only big threat is MJD right now. if they make gabbert throw it more, the bengals have a good chance. however against the pass, the bengals havent been very good at all. but gabbert didnt even complete 50 percent of his passes the last 2 games, which is a good sign for the bengals defense. only problem is, gabbert hasnt thrown an INT all year so far. can they get the pressure on gabbert this game?
3.Keep trying to surprise the defenses. jay gruden made alot of good calls last week on the offense, especially with the opening play of the game where WR mohamed sanu went in at QB and threw a TD right away to a.j green. now im not expecting that to happen again this week, but keep trying to throw the jags defense off this week IMO is something they should try to do. do that and the bengals will score even more points.
2.Pound the rock. even though benjarvus green ellis struggled last week, this week he will be licking his chops as he gets to face a jags run defense that is 30th ranked right now. the bengals need to take advantage of that and run the football. i understand that dalton is on fire and the bengals should just let him air it out more, but that wont work forever. let green ellis get a heavy workload this week and things can go well. the OL will need to get the job done here though, but the jags pass rush has only had 2 sacks all year
1.Shut down MJD. this bengals run defense has been so terrible so far this year. they struggled to stop ray rice, trent richardson, and robert griffin on the ground. now your facing MJD whos not gonna be any easier than any of those 3 guys. but if you blank him out, your gonna win. gabbert cant win for the jags alone, he needs MJD or its over, simple as that. i want to see this defense get angry this week and stop MJD.
PREDICTION
im feeling a little bit more confident about this team this year now. i still dont see playoffs, but i can see 8-8 right now which would honestly be enough to make me happy.
the jags arent not a good team, but this could be a trap game here. but the jags offense is mediorce and thats not a complete threat to the bengals defense. i still believe in this defense, it just the injuries are hitting this team hard. i think they win comfortably this week

enjoy the game everyone that is watching it. i will review this on monday
