Welcome everyone to this weeks bengals weekly preview between the bengals and redskins
GAME INFO
the bengals will be playing the redskins in washington d.c on september 23rd at 1 PM ET on CBS. its not the main game for the 1st slate of games, but it will be on in several places if you have the game. check this link if you got the game the506.com/nflmaps/2012/wk3.html. the bengals will once again be wearing there white away jerseys for a 3rd time in a row
RUNDOWN
its not one of the biggest games of the week, buts its a great matchup game for both teams, as both teams are hoping to go 2-1 after this week. rarely have both of these teams played each other so the bengals will be hoping to make the post season once again, while the redskins will try to get just out of the bottom of the division for the 1st time since 2007.
NOTES
*backup DE jamaal anderson tore his ACL in week 2 against the browns and is out for the season. with the bengals already down to 3 DE's and 2 of them being robert geathers and carlos dunlap who are battling injuries, the bengals went out and signed former chief wallace gilberry. gilberry was an undrafted rookie from alabama in 2008 and has played 4 years with the chiefs as a backup rotation player. hes only started 3 games in his career. hes had 14 sacks with the chiefs in his 4 years there, having 7 sacks in 2010. the bucs signed him this offseason but was cut after the preseason
*its official that ILB vontaze burfict is now moved to OLB inplace of thomas howard who is already out of the season. backup OLB roddrick muckleroy was moved over to ILB to backup rey maualuga. dont forget that OLB dontay moch is going to return in week 5 after his suspension is done
*despite S taylor mays being listed as a starter, he was a last minute scratch and didnt get to start week 2 because of his terrible performance in week 1. jeromy miles started in week 2 but didnt fair much better. taylor mays is still listed as a starter and will likely start this week now
HISTORY
the all time results between these 2 teams are tied at 4-4 right now. last time both of these teams played each other in 2008, the bengals won in cincinnati 20-13. last time both of these teams played in washington in 2004, the bengals also won 17-10. last time the redskins beat the bengals was in 1991 in cincinnati where they won 34-27. last time the redskins beat the bengals in washington was 1985 where they won 27-24
THE 5 KEYS TO VICTORY
5.Generate better pass rush. the bengals only had 2 sacks all game last week against the browns, while the browns had at least 6 on the bengals. that cant happen. getting to the QB last year is what helped this team, and so far its not there. its likely carlos dunlap will return this week which will help alot, but other than michael johnson, and geno atkins, all of the other DL guys, especially devon still need to step it already
4.Run wild. the rams lost steven jackson for 3 qrts last week against the redskins last week, and yet there backup RB richardson was able to run for at least 100 yards on them. law firm had a great game against the ravens, and an OK game against the browns. give him the ball and let him keep pounding the ball because hes getting better.
3.Keep Spreading the ball around. a.j green didnt step it up enough last week IMO, but he didnt need too because the other guys like tate, hawkins, and binns pitched in very well. keep throwing the ball around to other guys which will give a bigger problem to defense, especially the redskins who dont have a good secondary with all of the injuries
2.Learn to cover better. with all of the injuries at CB, its not good for the team. dre kirkpatick wont play once again, and theres now a chance that starting CB leon hall wont be able to play either. thankfully jason allen is expected to make his season debut this week who is now healthy. if leon hall isnt ready, terence newman is likely to start, and thats not a good thing. pierre garcon wont play this week, so theres no excuse now for this secondary to struggle
1.Stop the RG3 express train. if i had to pick a QB thats playing the best football so far this year, its definitely RG3. hes gotta get cold eventually though, but can they stop him this week? this bengals defense has so far been getting wrecked this year and facing the hottest QB right now doesnt help. infact, in the nfl perfect challenge, RG3 is so far the most started QB on peoples leagues (even i am starting him this week). if they dont find a way to slow him down, its not gonna be a good game for this team
PREDICTION
normally im a big downer on the bengals so far this year and i honestly see the bengals still finishing with no more than 6 wins. but i think this is a game i feel good about this week. the bengals defense is struggling because of injuries right now and mike zimmer is probably mad with how they have been playing. i think they will struggle again against the pass, however if they stop the run enough and score enough points which i think they will do, they will win the game

as usual i will talk about the game the next day probably. enjoy the game for those that are watching it
