Ah the weekend that was! From eight to the final four left to decide who will meet and play on super Sunday on Feb 5th in SB LI. This post is a few thoughts about what took place this weekend. The games to talk mainly about were this past Sunday. Here are my thoughts.
What can you say?!:Folks he is now becoming "just too marvelous for words". He has made the Packer fan forget about Farve! At this rate the Green Bay fans could forget about Bart Starr as well. Aaron Rodgers was brilliant in the Packers winning 34-31 for the Packers to advance to the NFC title game in Atlanta next Sunday. Besides the incredible 36 yard pass to Jarrod Cook on a scramble to his left and throwing off the scramble in one motion on an 3rd and 20, Aaron was sacked a few plays before by Jeff Heath on a safety blitz. Rodgers had the presence to call time out and not fumble the ball. Think about that because if the ball is fumbled and/or he does not call time out.The Pack could go into OT or lose the game in regulation if the Cowboys recover the fumble in Packer territory. Oh and the catch by Cook was so special that it will be remembered forever. Mason Crosby hit the game winning 51 yard FG after he had hit a 58 yard FG to take the lead at 31-28. Mason is really clutch and he deserves a lion-share of the credit for this win. Dallas fell hehind 21-3. They fought hard lead by DaK Prescott and Ezezkiel Elliot. Dak lead the Cowboys to a 28-28 tie on an 11 play 80 yard drive and the two-point conversion was good, Dak was excellent 24-38 for 302 with 3 TD's. He was heroic in defeat and is the Dallas QB for the future. Elliot ran for 125 yards. Dez Bryant was tremendous as well 9 catches for 132 yards and two TD's. Yet Aaron was the player of this game 28-43 for 356 yards and two TD's. Now the Packers are headed to Dixie for a showdown with Matty Ice and the Falcons who beat them earlier in the season. The Cleveland Browns were once known as the "cardiac kids". This Packer team is now that for this generation. Who knows they could be headed for a fantastic finish in February.
The Steelers get it done: It was not pretty and the Kansas City Chiefs deserve as much blame as Pittsburgh deserves kudos. Yet the Steelers won 18-16 on the strength of Chris Boswell's six field goals. Leveon Bell was the star of the game with 170 yards on 30 carries. Simply he controlled the pace of the game for the Steelers. The Chiefs,to be fair, hurt their own cause and will lament the drops, the penalties and not getting in the plays more efficiently. Travis Kelche dropped a pass that would have put the Chiefs around the Steeler 10 yard-line.Pittsburgh would have had time to drive the field if the Chiefs scored a FG or TD. Travis is a great player, yet that drop, his personal foul and his comments after the game made him look bad. The call on the 2 point conversion of holding was correct and Andy Reid did not manage the clock properly down the end of the game. Further you can't have Antonio Brown covered by Justin Houston on a shallow cross. This sealed the game for Pittsburgh. Ben Roethlisberger was 20-31 for 224.He was efficient.Brown caught 6 passes for 108 yards. Leveon and Chris were the stars of the game for Pittsburgh. Great win, yet the Steelers need to sure up their defense which got breaks from KC's bad play offensively. Further Tomlin needs to quell his anger and his bad feeling towards the Pats who don't need anymore motivation. The Steelers need to play better offensively as well or the Pats will rout them in Gillette..
As for the other two games. Seattle was overwhelmed! The Houston offense was overwhelmed as well. Their defense played well enough to win. Yet with crucial drops and bad QB play from Osweiller the Texans had no real chance. The Patriots will get it together and the Steelers will have to play perfect to win.
