So since high school I've wanted to be a sports journalist. Lately it's been something I've kind of let go of. You know the story, life comes along and puts all your dreams in the back seat. But I'm a big dreamer so I never stop believing. Anyway, I was advised to start blogging about sports and to see how I like. I did a little research, but most of the sites I found didn't have openings for sports or teams I know about or I'm interested in. My question is how should I go about getting my foot in the door?

Don't have any advice because I've never done it before, but have an idea.
Try to start just your own blog, and promote yourself on twitter. I don't know how much you use twitter (if you use it at all) but its the best chance to get noticed IMO. If you don't how to use twitter though, you will need to research that as well.

I have a blog right now at WordPress that is free and it is really easy to use. It's actually helped open the door for me too. I applied for a job working for my campuses newspaper and I linked my site to the application and they said they really liked my work and writing style and are giving me a shot at the job. So I'd recommend WordPress highly as a place to start.

Wordpress is nice, but I prefer Blogger, because it's owned by Google and that comes with some advantages over Wordpress or Wix, namely, search engine optimization. More people will find you more quickly on Blogger than Wordpress, and the customization is pretty comparable. I wrote a blog for a short time on Blogger and it became very popular really fast. I should have kept up with it, but I went to college and got a job and forgot about it eventually.

Make sure you use captivating titles for you work... like if the Cowboys sign a new player title it: "The Cowboys Were Lacking at Runningback, But You'll Never Guess Who They Just Signed" Click bait titles... it's the new journalism, right Juggs? In all seriousness though Will, there was a group of members here who talked very seriously about getting a blog going a few years back. Not many of them are still around much anymore, but the main ones I remember, outside of myself (I was going to help mostly with editing/design type stuff) were Plax, Panther, MO, and 101mitch... It's not a bad idea to have a group who can cover various topics and offer differing points of view. The biggest thing you need to do though, if you want to write, is find a way to get people to read it. Either you need to put money into marketing (once you have some product to market) so that you can have links to your writing popping up where people will see it, or you need to aggressively push your product on social media.

Ain't nothing wrong with clickbait. Loud and proud! Just put good content after the jump.

But I'm getting pretty good at Rocket League...
