I think the rest of the defense is close now. Trevathan Hurts, even more than Trevathan I believe Malik Jackson hurts. If you look at the two defenses side by side right now, the only difference in my eyes, is the Broncos secondary is better. I think the Raiders front 7 is right on par with Denver now. Khalil Mack = Von Miller Bruce Irvin = Demarcus Ware Malcolm Smith > Brandon Marshall Dan Williams > Derek Wolfe or Sly Williams. They aren't nearly as far behind as you think. Still not as good because Denver's secondary outclasses Oakland's but Sean Smith and David Amerson aren't push overs, and DJ Hayden showed some improvement last year. Had they signed Eric Weddle they would have been a defense to fear IMO. Right now they are good, but still have a few gaping holes to fill, if they draft as smart as they have the past few years then they are only gonna get better. KC, DEN, and OAK will fight it out Well, IDT they caught up, but have closed the gap halfway. I'd disagree that Malcolm Smith > Brandon Marshall. IDK where that comes from. He's outside anyway. Four sacks is nothing to write home about, is it? Our front 4 was frighteningly fast last year. Everybody ate. Why am I not seeing Marshall on the Broncos roster?!? Oh, never even heard of Dan Williams. Derek Wolfe had 5.5 sacks in 12 games. So uh... Even Sly Williams got 3 sacks. Dan Williams, 1 is career best. Anyway, it's all conjecture now til the draft. Malcolm Smith also registered 122 tackles along with 4 sacks, and he isn't a pass rusher. He is a 4-3 OLB, not the Von Miller Demarcus Ware style hybrid, so sacks aren't his job, 4-3 OLB are more like an ILB in a 3-4, made more to play in coverage and to stuff the run. He is very comparable to Marshall. Also Marshall is a RFA I believe. So the Broncos may still have to sign him. Dan Williams isn't a sack specialist he is a hole plugging run stuffer, more a NT. He betters an entire DL by taking up multiple blockers and moving them where he needs them. His job isn't rushing the passer, so sacks don't matter as a stat for him. He does make the jobs of DE's and LBs a hell of a lot easier. Wolfe and Sly are fine players but Williams is better. IMO one of the most underrated D-lineman in the league.

Figured it had everything to do with the 3-4. Anyway, I thought they franchise tagged Marshall, guess not. Then again, I also thought they resigned Owen Daniels, especially since they let Vernon Davis walk (mistake IMO, no receiver had a stellar year, no fault of their own for the most part). Wow, had no idea they let Louis Vasquez go just to free up cap space. Bigger mistake. Now I'm pissed, they're in worse shape than I thought. He was the only rock solid piece of that o-line. Apparently this was over a week ago. IDK how he wasn't snatched up immediately. Peyton gone. Vernon Davis gone. Trevathan gone. Daniels gone. Malik Jackson gone. And let's not forget about CJ Anderson. They should've matched the Dolphins offer by now if they were gonna. And now this?!?! Probably freed up a good $50 mil in cap room. Elway's gonna have to bite the bullet somewhere, and fast. Cuz they have no chance of filling their needs in the draft. It's naive to think players will take anything to be/stay with a SB team, especially one whose foundation has been this compromised. Sign me, Nervous in Philadelphia

Sign me, Nervous in Philadelphia We had to tag Miller because they couldn't reach a deal in time. Otherwise we would have tagged Brock or Malik. Marshall is an RFA with a 2nd round tender on him. We will likely keep him. We matched CJ's offer and will be keeping him. Davis would have demanded too much money and he never proved he was worth anything in Denver. Not sure why they released Daniels, but he's an aging mediocre talent at TE. I am upset that we failed to retain (or chose to release) all of our top inside offensive linemen. All we have left on the line is Clady, two young tackles who got to play a lot last year thanks to injury (Schofield and Sombrailo) and the new tackle we signed, Donald Stephenson, and then one sophomore guard/centre Max Garcia. We need something on our line. That's our biggest need by far. But we didn't free up a lot of cap room. We were tight as it is and they need to work out a deal with Miller ASAP. He is going to be expensive but he is worth the price. We still need to hold onto some space if we want to land a decent QB. The market this year is ridiculous and a guy like Kaep or Fitz won't be cheap. We broke the bank over the last few years in free agency (Manning, Ware, Ward, Sanders, Talib, etc) so that we could win, and we won. Now we will feel the sting of that aggressive spending.

Good post, and all rings true. But yeah, I know they went on a spending spree with the defense on top of Peyton. But hey you can't borrow from next year's budget, so it seems like they have quite a bit of space now. I also get it, as you suggest, they have to pay through the nose now for a servicable QB. Very relieved that CJ Anderson is back. When did that happen?!? Guess the NFL doesn't realize this is front page news. Knew I was forgetting something duh cuz he was out last year... Clady!!!! And Stephenson, excellent (right???). I don't have much faith in Virgil Green at this stage. A few tweaks (QB, TE ILB are key), we are back in business. Life is good again.

Honestly I don't think we are in too much trouble, but unless we fill a few holes we will be lucky to make the playoffs. A serviceable QB is all we need right now (that's all we had last year). I'd just like to see us shore up or o line, add a strong d lineman, a decent ILB and maybe a TE. With all that in place, we're likely still strong contenders this year.

Honestly if I was denver I'd be happy enough with the Sanchize and I make sure I get Lynch or Cook in the draft and I'd start the rookie. Fuck paying 10mil at least for a mediocre QB when you have one on on your team already and could have one with high potential for cheap.

So we went to Target today. You know the store that allows Trans people into the ladies room. Right by the front door is the ladies room with two signs.
I stop by the door. Marlene...."What are you doing?" Me........."I'm reading the sign"
So I push the cart about two feet and stop again.
Marlene......"Now what are you doing?" Me..........."I'm reading the other sign" Marlene....."Well stop it, that's creepy" Me......."haha"
